Franky is literally a “self-made man” while Robin is a woman whose existence has been criminalized by the government. These arcs both happened at the same time, which makes the messaging even more powerful.
We don't give Franky as much credit as he deserves. Dude went from beating up Usopp and stealing his money to becoming one of the MVPs of Enies Lobby and joining the Straw Hats after building them a new ship.
