Blake Mitchell is Salvador’s replacement more than likely. Taking a 18 year old catcher like the Royals did in Blake Mitchell probably means they are enamored with him. Can’t see him getting moved. He’s still likely 3/4 years away.

Theoretically the Cubs have some $ to spend, so could just buy a guy as good or better than Singer and not give up Hoerner+ prospect. This move works though if it's to save that money to sign ...who? 🤔

I think this still leaves the door wide open for Max Fried, and a Fried, Steele, Imanaga, Singer, Taillon rotation is pretty strong. Pushes Assad to the bullpen where he is a very strong weapon.

But Carter Jensen would be a very integral component of the deal. That’s a guy you may not be able to get out there. And I think we also need to consider there could be trade options that have financial cost to them.

Neither, but you want to create as much value long-term as you can and the league is moving to requiring 2-3 catchers with significant playing time to get through a season.

I trust your assessment, but the surplus value Nico has over Singer feels significant if we're operating under the assumption the surgery doesn't meaningfully delay his start to the season or impair his abilities.

I get the sense the first question was intended to be rhetorical, but there are reasons the Cubs could decide Hoerner is the one to move (internal replacements, change offensive profile, and because they like the return)
As far as speculating, it’s the MLB offseason. No better time to speculate.

No. The Royals have payroll flexibility and new ownership isn’t pinching pennies. Don’t think Chicago has to take any money at all.

Yeah and really the cost differential from Singer’s projected arb cost to Hoerner’s salary is only about $2.5m. So I don’t see any need on either side to worry about financials.

I don’t hate the trade. Losing Hoerner is going to hurt but Singer would be awesome. I was really wanting the Cubs to target him last off season.
