Just had to write my the section on use of AI for the course handbook for our next cohort. Had to edit it down a lot and remove all of the pithy comments I started out with, until it pretty much says “we will know; you will be penalised”.
If only there were some way I could have automated that.
Which is hilarious, because they're all diving head first with rocket boosters into the sunken cost fallacy, desperately digging their hole deeper and deeper and deeper. So at the end, trying to salvage their failed scam will just make their just desserts even worse. They've shot themselves in...
Oh thank goodness; it's only for premium. Well I sure as fuck ain't about to start supporting it NOW. Damn though; all my fur friends are on telegram. Now I gotta get ready to switch to something else. What a PITA, FFS
A few very big tech companies have spent an absurd amount of money on developing it (and are still spending an absurd amount supporting it), and now they're desperate for everyone everywhere to use it so they can justify that expense, and hopefully work out how to turn a profit off of it.
From my personal experience, the people that fund these companies do not want to be in a situation where they get beat to market by a competitor using AI who lands a hit product.
So we're in the phase of throwing AI Shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, praying for a hit.
That doesn't get Private Equity excited. They are in the business of trend chasing and maximizing ROI. I can come up with 50+ enhancements to the product I'm working on that will have a measurable impact on the bottom line. But we're being directed to focus on bringing AI into the product.
It's "the latest thing", so they think everyone has to be in on it.
But the reality is a lot of them aren't really adding it. They're just tagging the buzzword onto features that were already there, then cranking up the price.
okay I'm glad your commented because I have some questions. what does it do? like I tried talking to AI chatbots, they just repeat the same garbage. I tried AI art, but I hate how everything looks. what are some other uses of AI that are actually useful or beneficial? what do you enjoy using it for?
yeah no the hubbub over HFCS is just ignorant peasants thinking a witch makes all food dat aint found in naycha with black magic. the only reason HFCS is "bad" is that it is, by necessity, an added sugar. all added sugar is bad, frumnaycha or otherwise
some food dyes in particular however miiiight be highly toxic and give people brain damage the jury is still out on most of them. but that is also just exactly the end effect of widespread AI use
You know, I find it amazing...
AI can be used to handle manual stuff, like record intake and cataloguing while having people around to be authenticators to see if its being sorted right and QA testers for miniscule but major details to keep things right.
AI is instead being used to kill creativity.
I'll be real, just tossing my 2 cents, but solar and wind are probably the most inefficient way to generate electricity. The land and maintenance to make em and place them is environmentally destructive no matter where you put it, and frankly I think investing in nuclear reactors would do better
Places like California that have water supply problems are going to have to make hard choices balancing between tech and agriculture and local populations. But that's not an AI specific problem. That's a California water problem.
but see, that's still taking up energy that could go elsewhere. no matter how green it is, you're basically relying on glorified autocomplete that is more often than not built off plagiarism.
I mean, I don't think it's an Amish sentiment that when a resource isn't infinite, you usually don't want to waste it. Generative AI takes up more electricity and water than it's worth regardless of the source of the electricity.
Absolutely! AI is boring, produces 💯 derivative pap, and is designed for the absolute average of humanity’s opinions about everything. As a scientist, I just wrote 4 medical papers that AI can’t understand or explain to anyone. It’s looking backwards. It’s like the elevator music of weak thinking
Yeah, only waiting to see how exactly they implement xAI into Telegram. If they actually put it in private chats, like they say, I'm absolutely gone from there
Yeah. And I don't exactly trust them not to do it, regardless of what they say. The whole crux of AI revolves around scraping content without permission, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I make it a point to occasionally go online to a tech brand website, talk to an assistant, ask about getting a new device, and the specify that i'm looking for something without AI or something that let's me delete AI from the system. When they say i can disable the AI, i respond saying that's not>
> good enough. I want the AI systems out of my devices. I don't make it preachy or high and mighty, i simply make it clear that it's some bells and whistles that i do not want in my device, and the AI functionality is actually costing a sale
Companies are pushing AI extremely hard because they invested billions in it and have yet to turn a profit. They desperately need people to use it to show their shareholders that they didnt waste billions.
This is why even if you don't use it, they'll force a screen somewhere to offer you a suggestion. You received a suggestion, therefor you're a "user" to boost their numbers to show investors.
Rats. Now I'm going to have to go back to practicing witchcraft IRL to defeat them and their gullible investors. A pox on them. Which is probably happening anyway, with RFK at HHS. But thank you for letting us know that, in this as in so much else, passive resistance does not suffice.
This whole AI-craze might as well be treated like a new addictive & destructive drug that everyone's doing and we're being pressured to join in to be 'cool'. Just say NO. Because once they get you hooked you need more & more & more all the time.
Literally me yesterday morning... Phone did an update to its OS, tried forcing a bunch of AI features on me during the set up. Think I disabled them all, but honestly who can tell?
Artists of any genre using ai to help themselves is the most mindnumbing thing out there. You write but use ai for book cover, you draw but use ai do the backgrounds, you write lyrics and use ai to sing your songs. Its stealing from other artists and promoting hot garbage instead of creativity 😮💨
Sadly these companies want AI because it make their lifes easier and for some god awful reason normies are more willing to give AI chat bots all their personal details more than Twitter or Facebook. So until people stop using it, and companies stop seeing it a as cheap labor replacement we are suck.
Add to that that most tech companies nowadays rely on hype to reel in investors, and with AI they're desperately trying to convince them that it's a good investment, and definitely not a bubble about to burst.
Putting my bias against it aside I really don't know if it will bust or not... will it have the ROI they are expecting HELL NO! But between the mass adoption by normies, and how much it saves them on labor costs, I truly belive we are stuck with it in one form or another for the foreseeable future.
the world of business has always at its core revolved around making snake oils and desperately trying to convince everyone they will cure every ailment they didn't know they had
Yes they have, but the thing you have to remember is in nearly any business labor is the #1 experience. And sadly for many of these companies they see it as a way to cut labor costs. I am not just talking about companies force feeding the consumer AI but also the companies using it internally...
with or without the general consumer knowing they are. There are more than likely 50-100 companies using it internally for every one trying to force feed it to us. And even though they may not be telling us they are using it it still affects us as consumers of their products.
I don't see how a rational consumer would give a shit about AI use outside of the product. That is only relevant to the workforce, unless there is some particular cascading broad effect from the nature of that use
While partly true everything these days is about how to put a product in front of a consumer and convince them to purchase it. Mostly that is done though what people these days calls "The Algorithm" and these companies use yours and everyone else's data in the AI algorithms. That being said ...
Word of advice, learn tech repair. You can get some old tech like dumb tvs and just fix them with a quick board swap, and i've got a 5+ year old phone that still handles everything fine, it just doesn't support the AI systems. A lot of older tech doesn't get touched by AI stuff
I hope every one of their AI-Gen servers, including all of their backups, gets corrupted into oblivion. May they l lose power, have their cooling-systems fail, and their servers melt into husks of plastic, silicon, and metal.
Me blocking every social media group that I see posting: "amazing photo," or "i poured my heart and soul into making this. Can i get some likes?" When its clearly AI generated. I will weed out the rubbish from my feed slowly.
I work in software development, my boss gets my coworkers access to it and I asked to opt out. I'm SO glad he didn't care. I'm saving money on however much it costs him anyway so a win-win.
The company pays a shit ton of money for a machine that will say "sorry I can't do this" /"I will tell you how to do it the same way a simple google search would" and as well using it to search a shit ton of documentation saved in pdfs and archive systems they should have upkept decades ago.

If only there were some way I could have automated that.
the sole reason why they are pushing so hard is because they putted so much money on this scam that if it doesn't work, most will be in deep trouble
In a washer/dryer.
Yeah

I would encourage everyone to switch, but that takes time and patience and I'm not sure everyone would be up for that
Horse ferriers out here saying that automobiles will never be a thing.
No likes though.

Data centers consumer water whether it's AI or Bitcoin mining or storing Bluesky and Netflix content.
Electricity is not the problem. We're not Amish.

Is it for a shareholder to scroll thru the store and go "ah yes good, they have added AI to this now profit (???) "
I literally do not understand
And I had to explain to her what chat bots were x3

So goddamn sick of this. I wish (this form of) AI would go the way of NFTs.
Miss d-ninja92 is about to take the floor...
*you absolutely pop that pussy so hard you open a vortex*
I've informed my people that the day that finally happens, I will close my whatsapp account for good.
Least they put it next to the most appropriate other section: horror
the world of business has always at its core revolved around making snake oils and desperately trying to convince everyone they will cure every ailment they didn't know they had
That's a brilliant idea. I have a second hand shop down the road - I'll keep an eye out for some older tech!
(Go easy on me. It's 5 am and I have not slept)
I feel you.
