I have a friend who works in the auto parts industry and “deals in tariffs” every day. She claims this was much needed as the US had been taken advantage of by other counties for decades. Told me it will be better by fall.
Meanwhile, my portfolio is dropping.

Suppliers of American steel took the tariff opportunity to increase prices, those increases quietly cascaded.

I suspect wholesalers and retailers have been quietly bumping prices a tiny bit for months - where they can - in anticipation of tariffs. They would be stupid not to when replacement cost is highly unpredictable.
