This is why every political scientist you know has been in a state of panic for the past week. This isn't about policy disagreement, it's about the Constitution being destroyed before our very eyes.

My depressing thought for the day: it seems increasingly inevitable that quite soon, Trump decides to simply disregard a court finding that some of his actions are illegal or unconstitutional. Impeachment is attempted & fails thanks to loyal Republicans. At which point there are no good options.

Another major crisis point in a few weeks is when the budget continuing resolution ends March 14. Republicans don’t have the votes, and it seems unlikely Democrats will bail them out again. In that case government closes.
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
I said at the start: everything that's wrong in the world has come together over Palestine. #FreePalestine

What comes next is completely up in the air.
Otherwise everything becomes about the exercise of raw power.
They just won't seat them.
And then that only matters if congress hasn't just abdicated all of their powers to the executive already.
Impeachment is a political act, not a legal one (despite the quasi-legal format). The SCOTUS ruling is relevant only as context. If the votes are there, it carries.
But of course, the votes won't be there.
- Rule of law means nothing to Trump & Co
- Dems do not have the numbers
- GOP are cowards and sheep
- Judicial branch becomes virtually meaningless
