It seems clear that there’s basically zero decision making involved with the role right now, and until that changes, they need the right people leader in charge.
Naming Negron wouldn't have saved Dipoto's job. He needed Wilson AND Edgar. And it had to be a permanent change or Jerry would have been out.
Wilson's first decision--replace Acta at 3B. Finally!!!
Well done, Danny!!! Offense improved before doing anything with the players.
I want to see the org prioritize Spanish language players, and not just an interpreter. Edgar was critical when he helped Juilo. Julio even said it.
Our power bats/ outfield are all spanish-speaking, plus our pitching staff. It's not just about communication, it about making them comfortable.
Would be much worse, because it wouldn’t have been reasonable to expect them to depose everyone and install Vogt after 2023, but Negrón has been waiting around forever.
Not looking for splashy per se. Looking for a baseball mind not invested in the analytics as Servais was. Maybe that is Wilson? A guy like Ron Washington IMO would pay immediate dividends.
It wouldn’t make sense for them to hire someone like that.
The organization believes in analytics and has devoted tons of money, resources and time into roster building and development. They aren’t going to hire someone that is going to ignore it whenever they feel like it.
Pitching wise - way more success. Hitting has been a dumpster fire. The Mariners do not get the benefit of the doubt - there is no history of success. Jack Zduriencik & Dipoto / Hollander have failed at implementing for 16 years. When does it change?
It would change when the owner decides that he doesn’t believe in analytics and hires a big named manager or a GM that has somehow had success without it.
My point is that the people hiring the manager aren’t going to choose someone that isn’t going to follow the organization’s philosophy.

That said I’m pleased with how well they finished out the season with Dan so it’s looking like he was the right choice

Dan and Edgar pretty clearly have major influence within the org, which is why they were put in charge.
It wasn’t fan service.

The manager should be the best available people manager with the strongest relationship with the core players.
