There's "A Deepness in the Sky" which is set in the same universe, but 20k years earlier, it's only very, and I mean very, tenuously connected to AFUTD via 1 character. Also v good. Then there's "Children of the Sky" which is more of a direct sequel to AFUTD, I haven't read it yet. 👍

To be honest, I had trouble with Vinge's prose - especially at the beginning of the story. But admittedly, he packs a lot of great ideas into it - and that's why it's a shame that I couldn't enjoy the classic as much
