Postie just handed this to me. An ornate space opera, first of a trilogy, the rest of which, inevitably, I now feel compelled to track down. Send more shelves. 🪐📚 #scifibooks #sciencefiction

Although I don't think transhumanism is convincing, I do admit that Wright has an extraordinary imagination to describe it if it were to come to full fruition.
In my opinion, there is hardly anything comparable in SF to the Golden Age Trilogy in this respect.
...he publishes now with Castalia house -- the publishing house run by the infamous Vox Day (the white nationalist, alt-right, white supremacist, evicted from SFWA for racism, dude...).
I can find no evidence of that. Far as I can tell, he has been published in the US by Tor, Simon & Schuster and most recently by Pyr. What books of his have been published by Castalia?
I'm struggling to square that with his books which are pretty progressive in tone or at least middle of the road. Was he involved directly, or merely nominated by sp?
Are you now talking about Wright? I assume it's because he underwent a massive shift to the scary part of the right post-conversion to Catholicism which happened after that sequence of books were published.
I was 15 or so back when I read and enjoyed The Golden Age (2002) around when it hit shelves (back when I read newer SF). And then, of course, in 2015 I learned about the Sad Puppy nonsense.
Are you aware of this particular scenario though? Your dismissive comment says otherwise. He now publishes for a press run by a white supremacist named Vox Day.
I should point out I have no clue who this author is, who Vox Day is, or who this publisher is. My point was about the general idea of how to consume enjoyable art by people we may not care for personally. It's a tricky thing that used bookstores work for, for me.
I wasn't being dismissive at all. I apologize for coming off that way. I just mean that there are terrible people all throughout the arts but thankfully there are ways of consuming their works (which still might be well done despite their character) without financially supporting them.
In my view there are an infinite number of worthwhile authors out there that I rather spend my time with -- John C. Wright, Marion Zimmer Bradley, David Eddings, James P. Hogan, etc. aren't on that list.
If the list isn't clear -- John C. Wright (affiliated with white supremacists), Marion Zimmer Bradley (child abuser), David Eddings (child abuser), James P. Hogan (Holocaust denier)....
I can appreciate that for sure! It's always a difficult thing to separate art from artist. Each person needs to find their own way there. Wagner's music is brilliant but thankfully I can find his music without supporting the person. Harder for those living today.
