Pax Americana from the Roman Empire's pax Romana. It's only pax if your on the giving not the receiving side of the violence that's the foundation of empires. It's not like Rome or the US, through shear beneficence spread a blanket of love over the whole world and everyone got along.
Violence is the fabric of empire. It's initially aimed at conquest and occupation, and is therefore directed at other peoples directly or by proxy. But it does turn back on itself now and again.
Historians will proclaim,
it started breaking when we went into Iraq, it not only destabilized the Middle East & Europe with fleeing immigrants, it made Cheney, Bush & many in his administration billionaires.
let me take this opportunity to say thank you for Shield of the Republic podcast. I’ve learned a lot from it over the last few years and it balances other international news I consume.
Europe and the UK is perfectly capable of supporting Ukraine to victory, as long as the US stops holding everyone back.
Ukraine doesn't need Patriot interceptors if Russian airfields are all valid cruise missile targets, instead of being under Bidens or Trumps protection.
Granted, they're not neutral, but they're not openly supplying heavy metal weapons systems at scale either.
I'm assuming that's because they actually DO want to trade with us.
And for the record, US, German and many other western nations are also supplying high tech components for Russian weapons.
Basically, the US is screwed. The post WWII world order worked for the benfit of the US. Once the rest of the civilized world is forced to look at options without the US, they will realize they can get on just fine without it. Nobody cared about wars in the developing world, ever.
I'm concerned about Trump keeping his word on his tariffs. If he does, I could envision international trade breaking down, which could stoke wars of conquest as nations secure the resources they need to sustain themselves during what could be a type of international dark ages.
