So I can't help but notice that all this brouhaha about single sex spaces and trans exclusion from them is eliding the axiom underlying the panic.
Namely: taking the normalization of men's violence against women as a given that cannot be meaningfully ameliorated except through sex-segregation.

Humanity can’t go on indefinitely like this.
Interesting thing about the ladies in Mumbai as well: hijra used them without anyone making a fuss.
We can see the spaces for what they are: agreement
If your society is so twisted, that your presumably straight men will dawn new identities to be more opportunistic predators. Isn't that a problem with your social norm?
It's not predation they have a problem with, it's the role-reversal. They assume trans women are predators, because they couldn't imagine having access to women without predation.
you could even say it's complementary, given patriarchal social attitudes to rape as devaluing women
There's also numerous examples (the most recent to receive a lot of clicks being the fencer who took a knee and took home a large cash prize) where trans women are being regulated out of coed spaces for the same alleged predation.
Once that is acknowledged you can start to unpack the history, reasoning, limitations, fairness, effectiveness. But that quickly becomes a hard and uncomfortable conversation.
But an absolute "single sex" category much is easier to debate in the abstract in terms of who should qualify and who shouldn't
If a man really wanted to access a female space, he could, he wouldn't need years of treatment to do so.
The men especially calling themselves women's rights activists are all too happy to claim misandry if a man like them is concerned
(And trans people fuck up the nice bio essentialist world, naughty!)
Additionally, it downplays how vulnerable trans people forced into men's spaces are.
We've just accepted that someone is going to be at risk of gendered violence, and instead of reckoning with how fucked up that is, cis women displace their anxieties on a vulnerable population and tell us to take it for their comfort.
Swell.
I know you're saying that I just wanted to restate it for my own benefit
