This fixation on defining "deportation" as the 'normal', 'sane', 'business-as-usual' state of affairs, refusing to see how the violence endemic to the enforcement of borders leads inexorably to the current political climate, is once more the death knell of liberal attempts at consciousness-raising.

Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation.
