i hate the way everyone talks online now and i realized it's because everyone LOVES to be the bearer of bad news now and they love it so much they don't even check to see if they're correct before they do it

Over in these parts, we have the Irish Mammy Syndrome. Picture the stereotypical scene of a group of middle aged women each secretly competing with the others to deliver the saddest news. Deaths, strokes, falling into a river, you name it.
a bunch of evil Amazon automatic litter boxes were recalled for harming cats which is truly horrific but now any mention of an automatic litter box regardless of the type gets 10,000 shrill warning comments from people who are only barely literate but really want to make somebody else feel bad
I've always told people professionally to be careful with them because older arthritic cats don't always use them and it's somehow harder now to get that across because it's always a black and white issue with everyone.
People fucking love to be scolds. Like the Spaghetti Dog from earlier this morning; sure enough you had people on there telling OP that spaghetti wasn't healthy for the dog.
I’ve had my LR3 since 2017. The two original users have gone to the rainbow bridge but my new little guy has taken to it and I have no safety concerns. In fact, he likes to jump in while cycling and I can see that it stops like five times during a cycle. I’m hoping he grows out of that. 😂
We had two of them but there's a design flaw specific to my beloved cat and we had to get rid of them after leaking issues. Still though, never had any safety concerns.
This is every online animal community I’ve been a part of. Axolotl groups love to shit on each other over substrate, temps, food. Reptile stuff it’s UV lighting and which feeder insects to use.
There's a weird power creep too. Gotta have gerbils in a X sized cage minimum. But nobody wants to be seen doing the bare minimum so they do X+1. Eventually people say X+1 is the minimum because everyone does that size. But don't wanna do the minimum so people do X+2. On and on.
People also just repeat shit because they've heard people say it forever. There's a type of wood people claim isn't safe for gerbils that's fine. People will cite tons of sources, but those sources are all copy pasted from the same one place. Because it made a typo. And it cites nothing.
People say that chocolate is poisonous to gerbils. Y'know. Because it's bad for dogs, a totally different animal. I couldn't find any sources for gerbils either way but I did find a study where they gave rats literally as much chocolate as they wanted and it just affected their fertility some lol
IIRC it’s something to do with them not being able to metabolise certain proteins in chocolate so it slowly poisons them. Not unlike heavy metal poisoning in humans; it just accumulates over time

Like how the world is ending because I'm out of milk and am forced to drink my coffee black until I can go out at lunchtime.
It's so hard to work like this. Tearful emoji.
I've just stopped sharing news. There's enough of that out there.

This guy did a good breakdown of the problem litterbox brands and why they're being recalled:
And now you can't even find THOSE because AI has decimated animal searches.
