It gets even better when you include Sponsorblock yo get rid of in video sponsorships, self promotion, or other annoying fluff like interaction reminders. Makes youtube tolerable. Add on something to give random thumbnails and its *MWAH*
I dont mind in video sponsers. And some creators actually feel like theyre allowed to have some fun with it and make the ads worth not just skipping past. Like brutal moose. Some of his hellow fresh ads are beautiful nightmare fuel
Let’s not kid ourselves here, simply because Firefox is the lesser of two evils doesn’t make it the good guy. They make sure to harass a good number of extension developers, have ad tracking by default, and also pushed ublock light out of the store.
…not to mention how Mozilla axed their entire advocacy division (which was more or less the only part of Mozilla that actually did something good), and covered it up with a shitty brand change.
I’m using Zen (firefox based browser), and for me just reinstalling uBlock Origin through the store fixed it for now. We are probably gonna need some custom settings like before later though.
it's not even adblock this time, at least for me it seems they've just nuked the site's performance on firefox completely. had to boot up edge. which is based on chromium so seems like a transparent attempt to screw over the competition. something something competition breeds innovation.
I mean I did say Floorp works fine, and it still has been, so that's one workaround. I will gladly play cat and mouse instead of using Chromium based browsers so Google doesn't get more ad money and browser space.
The forced ads hasn't happened to me yet but the microsecond it does I'm switching to brave.
Mobile game ads have taught me just how utterly contemptable any product placement is with their annoyingly loud noises, bright colors, and irritating stock image characters they use for actors.
I have firefox on my taskbar right now. Never used it. It's just been sitting there collecting dust and starving since I got my lappy. Might have to finally give it some much needed use.
I specifically get Pie, but I have no idea if it is to be even trusted.
(Also a good chunk of their ads are not even categorized in 'Web Browsing', like clothing, games and other topics I guess)
Android 🤝 Newpipe (or Grayjay if you can't jailbreak and only have access to the Google Play store) on mobile.
YouTube doesn't deserve ad revenue if they refuse to vet what ads they provide a platform to (crypto scams, sexist mobile game slop, and gambling ads).
You will have to add ReVanced Manager to your phone, and it will take care of all the various ReVanced apps that are available. You will need to check updates yourself, unless you install the root version? But that's advanced nerdery.
jailbreak? you don't need any special permissions to get an alt store like f-droid up and running on android (the only 'downside' of using f-droid without root is no automatic updates)
I updated uBlock Origin until YouTube could no longer detect that I was running an adblock browser plugin :3
But yeah there's still a ton of mainstream media news sites that go all "erm you're using adblock can you please clutter your viewing experience with scams and slop" so I just close the tab
Vivaldi Browser is available on the Apple App Store.
I generally don't like recommending Chromium-based browsers as it just helps Google tighten its stranglehold on the web's "Manifest" standard, but if that's your only option then it's the least worst option (for blocking ads, privacy, and more).
Oh trust me, it never was for m many years
I use this example alot but:
Their "Youtube kids" section is filled with borderline sexual content/sexually implied and youtube does NOTHING about it.
and just lets it be up for children to watch.
We can hope, cause right now the only focus these companies have is profit and it sucks.
we want old youtueb back where it was about CONTENT.
not money, or gains or views.
The issue is, a YouTube competitor is a really hard business to break into, you need LOTS of cheap storage, plus people aren't exactly eager to move away from the vast troves of videos on YouTube to a small platform with a small selection of content
Yea, but its also the only option we can look for right now, youtube is constantly going down this path of forcing its youtubers to abide by click bait titles and flashy thumbnails in order to get views, it use to be about content and fun.
now its just greedy corporate rats
Oops, almost missed your reply! Yes, you can use Firefox with uBlock on Android (it's something I do as the default browsing experience), but this is primarily about not being forced to watch YouTube ads - and as much as it's possible to view YouTube in a mobile browser, it's nicer in a bespoke app.
youtube pulling this after recently shoving some useless AI shit into their site again has me reeling like im sorry you cant squeeze every last cent out for garbage, maybe make a good video site!!!
the only reason i dont swap to a youtube alternative is because there are either no good (and popular) competitors, or the competitors that do get popular are terrible and used by terrible people too
Youtube was giving me so much shit about ublock that not only did I have to turn it off but I had to reset the browser too. I'll turn it on as soon as I can lol
Alright, I gotta share this thing I threw together:
To a video sharing website
Browsed a stranger one fine day
Hardly posted any content
Didn't have too much to say
No one dared to scrape his data
No one dared to make a slip
The stranger there among them
Had the UBlock on his hip
UBlock on his hip
It was early in the morning
When he logged into the site
He was looking at his home page
Slowly scrolling left to right
"He's a Sigma based and redpilled,"
Came the whisper from each lip
"And he's here to watch dank meme vids
With the UBlock on his hip,"
UBlock on his hip
On this site there was a feature
By the name of YouTube Red
Many dollars it had taken
But it never would stay fed
It was vicious and a miser
Toward those who can't pay more
And the ads they'd have to watch first
Numbered one and nineteen more
One and nineteen more
Youtube is really upset with people who use ad blockers, and SponsorBlock, Dearrow, and other extensions that modify the default Youtube experience. (Because they want to fully control how you see the website to try and get you into a doom scrolling feed)
Grayjay is created by Futo and is an open source client for watching videos not only on Youtube, but also Spotify, Nebula, Odysee, etc. Their modo is "Follow Creators, not Platforms". So, for example, instead of following SomeOrdinaryGamers youtube channel, you follow SOG directly and see all their
Content from each platfrom they upload to. That way if they where to get banned from Youtube for some reason, you can still see the content uploaded by the user from other platforms. It is an Android app, but now just released a beta version for desktop. You can find more here https://grayjay.app
Very interesting... Suppose it will be a good means to look after creators.
Although I am curious to know if it covers the the in-general YouTube-scape of creators, or even be able to at some point skip segments like with Sponsor Block.
Already have both, now I really need an extension that neutralise that crappy auto-translating in titles and subtitles and especially auto-dubbing, that shitty AI voice is just horrendous

They’re primarily funded by Google, lol.
It just works💙
Switching to a different adblocker seems to work but I vastly prefer uBlock origins functionality.
Regular uBlock sold out and white-list ads for anyone who pays.
Ima keep lookin for workarounds. This is and always be a game of cat and mouse.
Mobile game ads have taught me just how utterly contemptable any product placement is with their annoyingly loud noises, bright colors, and irritating stock image characters they use for actors.
Otherwise you’ll be using another browser that’s funded by Google lol.
+ having Google as the default search engine.
I fully expect them to stop funding Mozilla soon btw, due to all the lawsuits they're facing right now. Mozilla won't stay-
Check 'Enable my customer filters' and 'Allow custom filters requiring trust'.

Should be an update soon.
Thanks for the correction and recommendation!

We really need a proper YouTube competitor because this shit is getting ridiculous
