Considering how terrible cousins has been and the fact that they are still in it to win the division, it shouldn't have been that tough. Sometimes you just have to admit your mistake. Better late than never I guess
As a MN fan, I’m so glad they didn’t get duped into paying him that insane amount of money. Also, his performance has always been highly tied to the confidence of his coaches, drafting Penix immediately wrecked it.
It’s beyond embarrassment that they’ve done what they have. I just figured that Penix was going to demand a trade the way they jacked him around. Plus, I still wouldn’t think that the whole country being smarter than the Falcons front office doesn’t mean they should be fired.
Kirk Cousins’ agent has got to be one of the best in the game. he was already too expensive in Minnesota on his last contract, the fact that he got bankrolled off an ACL injury in his mid 30’s is ludicrous.
Do you think this change will turn around a losing team that can barely win more than it loses in the weakest division in its conference? Does this matter in the least?
Am thinking this was the plan all along but Penix accelerated the learning curve. Good move by the Falcons to recognize all the way around. They knew Penix wouldn't be ready
If they miss the playoffs Terry has got to go. Can't miss like that multiple times and still have a job. Maybe its a hit on Penix hopefully but you paid Cousins how much?
But during the first 9 games, nobody questioned it. Nobody could have seen him just falling off a cliff like he did. I can’t even understand what caused the change so fast
Being from Minnesota I never understood why the Falcons paid that price for Cousins particularly with his age and the injury he sustained plus he never could capitalize when the red zone and fizzled in the 4th quarter
Unbelievable. Those foxes in the Atlanta front office have run roughshod over the rest of the chickens in the league, they’re making moves on planes of existence that nobody has ever heard of. I woe the sad soul who eventually has to step into the enormously tiny shoes of their GM, whoever he is.
Look at them hands. Would you say their big? Not the important thing for a QB, I think. My high school coach here in FL flattered his black QB by saying he had big hands. At least I think it was flattery. Our QB was also very fast and a star guard in basketball.
This may not be a bad move (aside from the guaranteed money the @atlantafalcons.bsky.social will pay). Penix has potential but has to learn the league and he has a rough injury record but they have Cousins as a vet to teach and back him up.
My favourite thing about this is thinking about all of the copy editors across the sports world accidentally typing 'Michael Penis Jnr' and never catching the error
Cousins has been awful, has no mobility and thrown away too many picks. Can't let that bad contract stop you from starting the rookie and giving him experience
I may be biased because I’m a UW alum and Huskies fan but I think Penix is going to be a hell of of a good QB in this league. Dude makes next level throws.
I’m a Raider’s fan too and yes, I wanted Penix. Was bummed when ATL took him. But you’re right, Bowers is going to be great and key for whoever they pick as QB.
That is a good question. I think they have to go QB, unless they can somehow land Darnold. As much as I’d love to see Travis Hunter in Silver and Black, they can’t go into next season with what they have at QB now.
"Just 14 starts" smh. He started 4 more games than he should have. Kirk was supposed to be better than he had advertised this season so it looks like the Falcons made a great decision picking up Penix after all.
The falcons need to hurry up and see if FBI will investigate if cousins was a part of the insurrection. Then tear up the contract with the morality clause
Oh, Jesus, that Washington QB. DEFINITELY. That kid is great! Almost in the National Championship Game last year. So damned close but anyone could see the TALENT.
This makes zero sense. The #Falcons are toast this year, just accept this opportunity is gone and let the rookie sit for the balance. He'll be better off next year.
I’ve lived in Atlanta since 87’ and gone through every season, highs and lows with the Falcons from Chris Chandler, Vick, Matt Ryan, but I broke up with them after that 28-3 (34) DISASTER Super Bowl in 2017 against the Patriots! I can’t do it anymore!
It’s definitely better to never make it then to be there, get up 25 points at half time and then proceed to blow it. It’s one of if not the key highlight to the GOATs resume and will be a part of league history forever.
Bag Secured by Captain Kirko!
But seriously, WTF is wrong with the falcons. Can't this org rebuild properly. Don't tell me that org is willing to sign Rodgers if the Jets cut him next season?
Good move for the player but how does that management not get into hot water for giving Cousins such a huge contract and then drafting Penix and before the end of the season Penix replaces cousins. Huge fumble!
I like that news!!! Kirk was basically just handing off the ball to the RB all game so let the rookie do it and get him some reps in the game. Also they are playing the pathetic GIANTS next week - hardly a challenge for Penix. Great spot for him to build confidence.
Minnesota here..
Cousins always had good stats, but the W/L ratio, especially with teams over .500, was abysmal.
For "some" reason, we have a less than horribly disappointing season going on this year.
No tag backs!

New arm is newer than the 'proven' arm... Or something, like when Kurt Warner got replaced by my Lord and Proven Savior Sir Eli Manning Esq.
no shame, he had a long career, did well
it's time
Hopefully these few games were long enough for penix too learn and start
These last games are must wins for us
He-he-he…
The Ravens were ALWAYS going to match any offer.
Michael Penix Jr. — the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft — led the nation in passing in 2023.
