The majority of Americans did not vote for him. Nineteen million anti-MAGA, but not pro-Democrat, voters stayed home. Low voter turnout has long been the only way Reps win.

I love the reference to the display of tacky looking trophies Trump has on his mantelpiece. I’d love to know what they are. Look like the stock from a Pyongyang souvenir stall.
I went to a trophy store once, to get a memento for a senior member of our music group. I came away thinking I could have the most impressive wall of awards for a comparatively minor investment.
(I am appalled that it was the first thing I noticed in the pictures.) I have lived in the DC area 74 years and have NEVER seen a White House mantel looking so bereft of taste. The WH chief decorator must have been fired along with air traffic controllers.
And...they hit the nail on the head! As a never Trumper, I am appalled, embarrassed, angry, and disappointed in the electorate who voted Trump into office. I am appalled, embarrassed, angry, and disappointed at the Republican Party which shows only cowardice.
Well, just look at the hundreds of people out protesting. Of course we didn't think it "went well". There is no monolithic America, just as there is no monolithic British support for Brexit. 75 million voted for Kamala. Sheesh. Stop lumping us all together.
Would have appreciated Murdoch & his Fox channel actually doing something pre election other than making sure his viewers were brainwashed & foolish voters, rather than publishing cartoons after the fact.
I am sure the second state dinner will be a real dressing down, though!
I agree with Connie. Sometimes it's just good to be supportive of posts which point out the (mostly) universal disdain for what is happening.
Taking something literally and making it an issue can be distasteful. That's what the OTHER side does.
Have a great day and now I am going to mute the thread. I was not addressing you - I was addressing a poster who addressed all Americans, which is both of our right to do.
Rory, you posted addressing "Americans", not just the ones who voted for him, so I felt totally welcome to respond as I am one who did not. Trust me, we get it. Since you liked my post I assume we're good.
You seem like a good person with an appealing book so best to you.
We share a mutual love I think of #sophiefromromania. And yes, I get where you're at in USA. These are difficult times but basically what unites us is greater than what divides. x
How very confusing - because this newspaper, the Times of London, is owned by Rupert Murdoch a massive promoter of Trump. This is an example to outsiders of how the British do hypocrisy.
I certainly thought it went horribly. Trump pitched himself as an impartial mediator, while in the same breath asked for mineral rights in exchange for protection. Trump and Co. were by far the most disrespectful in the room. Justice for Ukraine was ignored completely.
Like seriously kids, there's ppl dying out there, nobody wants the war specially those who are out there and yet this ... Is what you care the most??Some politicians arguing each other ? Grow up already, ppl of our community was forced to go out there and fight, forced by Putin as much as Zelensky!!
Can't speak for anybody else, but watching that had me shouting at my computer. My blood pressure was so high that somewhere a cardiologist woke up in panic.
I guess some Americans thought this went well. Unfortunately, far too many. But also many of us are appalled and embarrassed. We don’t even know how to begin to apologize.
No sane American thought that so-called meeting was anything but a disaster. The only president there was President Zelensky, and he had to deal with two childish, bullying thugs. It was a disgrace. Now and forever, I support the Ukraine.
Liar.
That is how one left-wing political cartoonist saw it.
I am sure you know there's a reason every newspaper has a disclaimer on the OP-ED pages saying opinions don't necessarily reflect the views of the publisher.
My goodness what a well reasoned and articulate rebuttal. I gather you're American so I recommend you read Article III Section 3 of your constitution which defines treason. Certainly Trump and Vance have given great comfort and support to Russia.
I showed exactly the level of respect your moronic drivel deserved.
I could have written a rational, factual, and lengthy rebuttal...but why should I waste my time on someone who can't read or (more likely) refuses to accept the truth?
The only people who thought it went well are not what we would call people.
We’d call them traitors, bastards, assholes, Benedict Arnold’s, Judas’s, Kremlin ass kissers, Putin cucks, Orange Julius Caesar’s, Couch Molesters or other things too gross to say.
@mortenmorland.bsky.social is absolutely on fire at the moment: putting the rest of the commentators - @matthewsyed.bsky.social excepted - and leader writers at The Times to shame.

Rubio was disappearing into the sofa, and Mike Myers nailed Musk on ketamine.
It was excellent.
VZ: “I think you’ll find those acorns were a gift”.
Most of us are SICKENED and angry here in America. So many protests today.

All the best to you.

Just one thing though, get ready to be hated as much as russia, it's unavoidable.
Keep posting though…
It's good to find you on Bluesky. I hope you are doing well. I always enjoyed your BBC work, which I listened to on iPlayer.
Stay well!

The peaceful and free world saw it.
Petulant, whiny schoolyard bullies.
Perfect perspective.

Many Americans are tripping over ourselves to bring back the apology instead.

The USA is now just a client state of Russia. Putin is pulling the strings.
This is what happens when a corrupt felon gets elected. It’s a sick joke.

Not a whiny orange Baby Doc nor a couch rapist.
