Ukraine will not accept a minerals agreement with the United States that would jeopardize its accession to the European Union, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said yesterday.

Would a contact, made under duress, (fear of death of thousands of your citizens) be held to be legally binding anyway?
Certainly the contract of getting rid of your nuclear weapons in exchange for safety guarantees doesn't seem to be considered binding by the USA
Ukraine should not make any deals with Putin or Trump. They cannot be trusted. Trump breaks all of his deals. He has a history of it, including the trade deal he made his first term with Canada and Mexico.
Good on him not giving in to Trump and Vances veiled attempt at a shake down.
Ukraine needs security guarantees and I am pro Ukraine in EU if it secures our Eastern flank from the Rus' - I'd rather have them in EU and push them towards us than Russia conquering them and turning them against us.
He's fully right.
As usual, Ukraine stays strong towards Russia and USA.
Orban sells he's country to Putin and a priori Meloni is ready to sell Italia to Trump.
Yep, more nuanced position. She is clearly on Ukraine's side and contra Putin. The time is coming when Europe will have to stand up to Trump and having her could be useful.
I remember it was Meloni who convinced Orban to remove his block on russian sanctions when they were first being imposed.
Haven’t the Ukrainian people earned the right to be part of EU and NATO. They are literally fighting for every European democratic country. Fast track and send in troops.
President Zelensky is right not to accept the minerals agreement. He has to think to the future as well. If it jeopardizes its accession to the European Union, then it's a no brainer.
I understand that people here cheer for Zelensky and emotionally it makes sense. However, if the US decide to provide intel and financial support to Ruzzia instead (not unthinkable based on current events) we might have either total collapse of Ukraine or a WW3.
They never should! Ukraine’s natural resources should never be on the the negotiating table! The natural resources of a country should be owned by its citizens period!
Although if the agreement is a treaty (it seems to be) then it only becomes legal in the US when it has been ratified by Congress and that doesn't look very likely.
Rather than Destructive Agreements with USA 🇺🇸 to the advantage of Blackrock and Trump /Musk Make Agreements with Europe which then gave much more Money than Trump /Musk's America the Old USA 🇺🇸 of Biden used the Formula (Lend-Lease Law) Today Lost Fund
Russia Asks America to Lift Sanctions, But European Sanctions Really Matter
EU🇪🇺 Dropped the (Financial Nuclear Bomb☢️) on Russia 🇷🇺 If They Want SWIFT They Talk to EU🇪🇺 and AU🇺🇦 at a Table President Zelenskyi's Don't SIGN anything with Trump / Musk
And the reason USA keeps putting such conditions in drafts of agreements is that USA want to be able to say "Ukraine doesn't want peace, they keep rejecting our proposals, so we will support Russia instead."
Which is ridiculous when you think about it as an argument
you don't want peace so we're going to support a bully who started the f****** war in the first place
America and Russia plan to carve up the entire world, I say f*** both of them
I have a sneaking suspicion that if Putin is taken out, Trump will calm his tits.
Putin is in a squeeze right now, and he's the one calling the shots. So my guess is that Putin is leaning heavily on the Quislings in USA to get him out of the hole he's dug himself into.
I do remember, and I've been warning people about it for 10 years, all they used to say is I'm Russian phobic lol
They do a creeping invasion and spread a fake narrative of anti Russian racism in the country they're just about to take over to stare up ethnic tensions
It also means Europe has some time before Russia comes for us. It is hard preparing for war when material gets sold on the black market almost as fast as it makes it into the warehouses.
I also guess that the loudness of Trump is a distraction, because the sanctions on Russia *are working*.
Sadly, it's not about any minerals at all. It's a show for the public. To make Putin stop the war, you must defeat him on the battlefield, or give him what he wants. There are no other options. Putin wants to make Ukraine his second Belarus, and Trump is helping him to do so hoping to end the war.
The most corrupt country at the moment is America, then Hungary, which is in the EU and elections will be held there soon. It is not the stupid gringos who decide who joins the EU, but the 27 member states.
And how can Orban afford such a villa - worth 30MIO - with his official salary which is just over 170K gross per year? Everyone in the EU knows what a corrupt piece of shit he is, just like Trump. That has nothing to do with their politics, that's a separate issue.
Maybe so. It was the same for my home country Croatia after the war. Ukraine will have to work to join, which they are doing. While Obran builds his palace.
There is not much difference in the corruption index between Hungary and Ukraine, even though Hungary has been in the EU for ages.

Just wait and watch, it's coming.

I figure when Putin is taken out, and he will be, somebody just as bad will replace him anyway, Russians don't seem to like democracy
But at least when that happens it will give us a break from all this lunacy for a while
That is one hell of a miscalculation, but not unexpected in Russia where everyone lies, especially to their superiors.

I guess we should be thankful Russia is corrupt out into their fingernails, because if they weren't, Ukraine would be in dire trouble.
