Listerine cigarettes, c.1930. The tobacco was infused with the same antiseptic oils used in the mouthwash for a "cooling and soothing effect." Listerine cigarettes were not very popular because there is almost no record of their existence. #histmed

I was in 1of the random ghettos here in Baltimore yesterday &i went to buy red ciggs & he said they only have “old people ciggs” like Virginia Slims or this crap. The guy behind the counter also acted like he had never seen a white boy before and went on to ask me a million questions.
They made the mistake of not targeting minorities and women. "Torches of Freedom," the advertising campaign convincing women to smoke, had been only the year before.
My dad thought Listerine cured everything…he even used it on my baby sister’s diaper rash….once. We were raised by wolves and Saturday morning cartoons🙃
And unfiltered, Lindsey, I'm guessing.
We used to have filter-tipped, mentholated St Moritz or Consulate in the UK, years ago. Their minty-ness only lasted for the first one or two smokes, though. After that they tasted like ordinary, tipped cigarettes.
