It literally says "he lost the thread one minute later" and then describes 2 mistakes/non-sequitors in a way that makes it clear that they were consecutive, but I guess the NYT readers who can't read might miss the implication.

Sane-washing takes motivated reasoning in addition to media framing.

calling Donald Trump a "toddler" omits the cruelty and serious dangers that his actions impart..
