I am a parent and I do not support this. If my kid was guilty of a crime I would want them to face consequences. I would stand beside them every step of the way but this is just another lesson of if you are connected to power you don't have to face consequences.
It's disappointing but unsuprising

Hunter had a plea deal on the table and it was pulled at the last minute under political pressure. Selective facts of the case were leaked at opportune times by government agents in the IRS and then shielded by senate republicans and the law he is being charged under is probably unconstitutional

Because a couple things can be true at once: Hunter was guilty of tax evasion and the gun charge. At the same time, his prosecution was politically manipulated and exploited. On top of that, the new Trump DOJ will destroy his life. On balance, I think the pardon sucks but I understand it.

I suggest you go back and review the history of the presidential pardon to contextualize what “precedent” this is actually setting.

This is basically par for the course, it also slams the door on 2+ more years of a do-nothing congress slow dripping info about it to act like they’re governing.

Trump had Jared and Ivanka work in the WH. He just announced Jared’s pardoned dad as France Amb. We are already well down this road. A simple pardon of Hunter to keep him being further targeted and harassed by Trump was sadly necessary. This is on Trump and his sycophants abuse of DOJ, not Biden.

Biden is trying to pardon his son from a federal gun charge violation PLUS make him immune from any wrong doing with regards to his dealings with Ukraine, China and a few African countries. So in essence a "Pre" pardon. That is a new precedent. That's scary.

It's to protect him from Trump going after Hunter to get revenge on Joe. I doubt he would have pardoned him if Harris had been elected. He's making sure Hunter doesn't end up like Epstein.
