there aren't many instruments like this, but basically any time I hear a baritone saxophone, in any musical style or context, my immediate reaction is "hell yeah"

Art from artist aside, QOTSA’s The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret is a song I’ve loved for like 25 years and I swear to god I did not consciously notice the bari sax until a few days ago. I have no idea how.
As a saxophonist the bari sax is the perfect example of my hypothesis that all music regardless of genre is improved by the tasteful inclusion of saxophone
I listened to this track 1 time 20 years ago and it's all a blur since then but somehow I have a masters degree in bass guitar now and perform professionally on jaw harp
About 7 years ago my wife was in her office listening to a collection of Motown hits. Afterwards she actually came upstairs and *suggested* that I should go buy a bari (the same Yamaha YBS-62 that Doc Kupka plays in Tower Of Power). LOVE that horn. Well, sure, I love my wife too, but that bari…
Two thoughts: a friend once likened the bari’s sound to “rubbing two balloons together” - and this seems right to me; hearing Tower of Power’s Doctor at work makes me think of the great tympanists: rhythmic impetus and incredible punch.
