Oh yes, I absolutely feel this! I had the same thing with one of my manuscripts. It's about 20k words in and suddenly a completely different book happens! Unfortunately for that one, another has just outlined itself in my head. (Send help. 😭🤣)

two separate dishes, lol. There's a very nice roast squash salad that needs a lime dressing, and probably a bulgur wheat and beetroot traybake for the halloumi.

A few days after deciding to properly get back into long-form writing with a standalone, low-stakes novel... The climactic scene of novel #4 in the series came to me *LITERALLY IN A DREAM*

Note how I said "standalone". Now I have to write five books. FIVE.

I think so much art works this way! I can’t imagine how difficult it is when your creative output is tied to contractual obligations, but aside from that fiddling concern (/s), tangents are awesome.

Hah, I get the textile version of this, "Here's the quilt I made when I had decided to make a completely different quilt." Can be awkward when I have to tell a friend I'm not working on the quilt I've promised them, AGAIN, but the quilt queue works itself out in the end.
