Sometimes you sit down to write and instead you think or cut or rewrite or unwrite. That’s okay. That’s a productive day because all of those are part of the process. Keep going.

Revision/edit is writing. But one of my favourite creative writing teachers told me we're writing when we're not writing. It made me feel better about being slow with my own crap...and this book that never seems to end and is always calling me to finish the damn thing.
Yes, this! Lately I’m in this cycle where I re-read the last section I wrote, disenshittify it as much as I can, then those edits springboard me into the next fresh section, which I’ll disenshittify tomorrow at the start of the writing session and so on…
That's often my method as well. Edit what was previously written to help get into the flow for the new pages. This method means the first pages have near final draft quality, but the last pages are still first draft quality. Still, it makes the later rewrites easier.
