I’ve always been fascinated with this character! To me he really drives home what i think the movie is “about” (or at least one thing) which is the way the police use their status to subjugate people on the fringes, esp those who dare to push back on them. He’s perhaps what Burns fears he’ll become

Feel like Nichols’ Angels in America must have had this as a reference point? That last still in particular feels very reminiscent of the scene where Louis cruises a guy in the park who is played by the same actor as Prior
