What struck me about Trump is how he captured the GOP. Even the big beasts fell (reminded me 2019 Tory purge). People voting on lies not facts.
2016 it was a big strategy of Trump that you can only believe him; even though he’s a proven liar.

I've not seen anything so eloquently explain Trump's appeal to his base. It isn't why he won, though. Inflation, disinformation about the economy, and a dozen false promises are why he won. Unfortunately, the disapproval of the moderates he tricked won't break through the din of his fanatics.
