Ahh! But they died with their 'briddish sovrenty' restored & iconic blue passports clenched in their cold dead hands, whether they wanted to or not. Hopefully, unaware that they're made under a contract awarded by the Tories to a French-Dutch company in Poland - cheaper than the British competition.
Brexit was a mistake and rejoining the EU is clearly a good idea given obvious realities today. Why is there so much malaise and sluggishness in the UK to actually do things?
There seems to be an idea that all we need do is turn up in Brussels, say we’re very sorry and please may we come back. ‘Taint gonna happen, I’m sad to say…
Unfortunately you're right. I know Starmer needs to reset relations but it's a case of baby steps. It may seem at odds with my previous posts on the matter but I've rethought. however, If there was a referendum next week to rejoin, I'd vote yes
It isn't just Brexit - the Tories removing the nurse training bursary also turned a lot of young British people from wanting to train to become nurses.
And yet, one of the chief architects of the Brexit disaster will be out in the UK today urging the hard of thinking to vote Reform, laying the country open to more of the consequences of his lies & misinformation. We should never forget that he was the instigator of the #FarageRiots last year! 🤨
They absolutely will, but that's the far right of the electorate, the old BNP members, happy to be mainstreamed & given a voice by populist 'politicians'. More worrying is the lack of critical thinking skills, as Bertrand Russell said abt the road to fascism "Fascinate the fools, first........
Some yes, sadly & as his mate in the USA has proven, they'll believe until their last breath! The more worrying are the rw nationalists, the "patriots" who see a way to gain a foothold in UK politics thro the front door under the guise of respectability. Once they're in, we won't get them out!
Someone at the very top must want it this way! It would not be very difficult to weed it all out yet it's not happening, and it's only growing. Also, no one expected Brexit referendum to be decisive. It supposed to be advisory, yet they pushed it through. And pushed and pushed until broke all ties.
I heard it from you first. This is my favourite question. If we ever rejoin the EU, ask a brexiteer, what is it about brexit you’re going to miss? Love it.
Brexit betrays every generation, every demographic, every group, every business, every friendship, every adventurer, every free spirit. Everything and everyone.
The costs of slogans often arrive in silence—in staff shortages, slower care, and the quiet absence of those who might have stayed. We owe it to the country to count the full cost of every decision, even the ones that won elections.
Sounds like gross negligence manslaughter, to me. After all, government ministers were well aware of the consequences of Brexit (they published a study on it) just as they knew it was advisory only. May also admitted that she understood that the Referendum result was unsound due to illegalities.
From work I know multiple people who didn't left only because of their kids personal relationships, but at least encourage said kids to study and seek opportunities in the EU.
I will no longer be voting for any party that does not want to rejoin the EU. I’m done with the bullsh!t. I’ve lived with the debacle of Brexit (as we all have) & had enough. If you say you WILL rejoin, you have my vote. Of not… jog on. I’m not listening to the lies anymore.
Foundation Doctors are picking up slack because of inexperienced nurses too. No teaching, no training jobs. These will be the next to leave and be replaced by cheaper less qualified alternatives. In the words of one Foundation doctor -“ I feel like a fool for signing up to this!”
These two Freemasons, Bro Nigel Farage and Bro Boris Johnson ruined our futures and those of our children, shortened the lives of the sick, made us all poorer, destroyed our economy, and made Great Britain a worldwide laughing stock.
Brexit is not really the issue here - its the Tories inability to believe in, fund or otherwise support the NHS. This includes staff retention and recruitment.
Nearly a decade on. Not one single benefit. Not one single piece of Brexit good news. Just damage, disadvantage and now death…
I don’t know how this is remotely sustainable as an idea and it’s sickening that those who peddled this godalmighty mess are protected from being held to account for it.
Can't even remember the last time a politician was held accountable for deliberately deceiving the public. They are no better than email scammers at times.
Look on the bright side; they were the only crooks based on the Isle of Man and every other business there (and Turks, and BVI, and Gib, and Jersey, and Caymans, and ...) is pure as the driven snow.
And all we get are the right wing blathering about ‘Brexit freedoms’ and the Government wittering on about their stupid and increasingly pointless ‘red lines’.
The problem is that those who peddled Brexit have been allowed to argue that it wasn't done properly. They are rarely challenged on what a proper Brexit is, Femi has done this heavily on several occasions. They simply escape challenges too often
And that Farage is leading in the polls in today's local elections is such a dereliction of duty by government and the media. They have enough evidence to tank the bastards but no, they go along with the shitshow. Like you say, sickening.
Populists offer simple explanations for complex problems. They reach back to an imagined past to show what the future should look like, and this vision is so appealing to millions that they often don’t ask themselves whether it has a rational justification or just an illusions, and false analogies.
Plenty of brexit benefits, Sarah. Just not for the likes of us. Disaster capitalists we're well positioned to make loads of money - especially the cute ones who moved their business to Ireland to stay in EU.
Well actually I do know how Brexit is sustainable… it’s precisely because those responsible for it are not held to account.
And because our politicians and media are up to their necks in the dishonesty of it all.
I really can’t fathom how people can watch all the reactionary RW bullsh*t that Labour have been doing for months now & still cling to the idea it’s somehow 4D chess.
“Reform would be worse” is literally all they’ve got…even that’s not entirely clear
And yet, the overwhelming majority of people who did not vote for this, still cannot come together and throw these crooks out of power and into prison. The English really do need to be more like the French!
Yes, indeed. It's also funny how the Starmer supporters who excoriated Corbyn over the perceived lack of enthusiasm during the referendum are strangely silent about Labour's "born-again Brexititer" stance.
Corbyn made more anti-Brexit campaign appearances than any politicians except for the PM and the Chancellor.
If you're going to blame Jezza for not making a convincing enough case against Brexit, you might as well blame the whole Remain campaign...
Please note when the write references the “NHS” they mean “the English NHS”. As Scotland likes Europeans and everyone else in the world and we don’t suffer from English exceptionalism. If you’re now confused and saying to yourself what’s “English exceptionalism”, look in the mirror!
The flip side is that nurses returned to the EU, and as a Spanish citizen since Brexit I now get a first class health service. Thanks UK, and good luck with the unicorns.
James, sadly Labour is trying to ape Reform. I get posts on how many people they have deported. They must challenge Reform on the failure of Brexit, support for Trump and Putin. Also what they are going to do with the economy.
If Brexit achieved anything its that it has exposed the amount of political illiteracy that a predominately working class population has and shown how easily they could be manipulated by leaning in to their phobia of any personal intellectual challenge.
That’s part of what’s so crazy-making with what’s going on in the US right now—you need considerable time to pass to be able to study and quantify these consequences, and they won’t be so dramatic that people will notice them in real-time
And who can blame the nurses, in Exeter A&E emergency ward on Monday, not in the madness of the reception area, and some delightful local shouting about "f@#king foreigners" to the nursing staff because they wouldn't do what she demanded. Their graceful assertion in response was unbelievable
I bet they didn't get chucked out. I've no idea how the NHS staff put up with this sh*t. I had to say something to one choice person in Derriford who decided to invoke the C word in front of my 9-year-old. The security guard seemed completely unfazed by it; I wasn't!
No they didn't but the staff made it very clear that if the slurs were repeated treatment would be withdrawn. The police who were attending another patient also proved very supportive of the doctor and nurses involved.
Brexiters can hardly be held responsible for those European foreigners refusing to acknowledge that we hold all the cards. Just arrant stubbornness at this stage.
As some Reform supporters posted today on our neighbourhood page “we didn’t believe in Brexit hard enough to be a success”. I despair with Reform voters, they are like Maga voters
And a Kent farmer had to destroy 300 tons of strawberries because paperwork thwarted him from exporting them to the EU…. ‘They need us more than we need them.'
And as the years go on things will just get worse as the 2 main parties are scared of good old Nigel
After seeing some comments on social media, however, regarding the elections today the great British public will deserve everything they have coming to them
Labour are working hard behind the scenes on getting us closer to the EU. The EU seem to be keen too. Don't assume they are doing nothing in this regard, they're not.
I know labour have said they want closer ties with the EU but all this could be undone if Farage actually did get into number 10.
The only good thing that would come out of a reform government is that he would be totally finished politically after one term

The racial abuse they receive is disgusting. The wife refuses to treat the perpetrators and tells them to leave. They then turn on her!
These people are vile.
A gasp 😲 would've been marginally better.
... but that's why James does what he does and I do what I do.
You know who they are!
Sorry, not in the EU?
Yet Frosty gets a peerage as will all of the other wreckers with blood on their hands, no doubt
Recruitment is nigh impossible
Not entirely sure you'd get the same exceptions and exemptions ;-)
Meanwhile, Labour, nothing to see here 👀
🤬
Gods among men. Both of them.

There won't be an NHS to worry about.
Most of them didn't just left the UK ..
They were forced to leave..
And that's a big difference..
Brexit…the disaster that keeps on giving.

You can forget the EU.

Things change.
Lee Anderson is a political opportunist. Everyone know that apart from apparently, you 🤷♀️
Starmer has been a Party Member since he was young.
If you don’t like him, fine. But say it out loud
“Ditch regulations”
You almost can’t tell the difference between Reform, Labour & the Tories these days.
Only LDs & Greens have any sense ffs.
And because our politicians and media are up to their necks in the dishonesty of it all.
In fact they seem to prefer the support of people who voted for it.
“Reform would be worse” is literally all they’ve got…even that’s not entirely clear
I just want them to do the right things.
Je suis européen.

Farage was one of the people who made this happen, and he isn’t going away, is he?

Those of us who were anti-Brexit warned of the consequences repeatedly so there’s no way the Brexiteers didn’t know. Life to them is cheap.
They did 😢
Of course it requires everyone to know that, or else they’ll take the post at face value and wonder why you ended it with slash-S.
That means I'm being a c*nt

Not the bonanza putin promised?
