20 minutes ago here in Venetie, Alaska, the skies erupted in a beautiful auroral substorm. Here is just one of many real-time videos I recorded during the show to give you a sense of how fast and dynamic the aurora can move.

I remember when I was younger assuming that these kinds of videos must be sped up. It was a shock when I discovered this could actually happen. I guess with sunsets being my frame of reference I was unprepared for understanding the speed of highly charged cosmic particles hitting the magnetosphere.
That's beautiful since we know what's the cause of it. Can you imagine how terrified our ancestors would be to see such beautiful light show. They would shit their pants and think their god is angry.
A reminder…God will persevere over man’s greed!!!!

Did cameras get a lot better in the past couple years or is this another sign that we’re all doomed? I love the photos and videos, I just never saw this stuff as a kid and I see it all the time now.
I still think the best description I've seen of it is from, of all things, a Stan Rogers song about a guy killing someone and then running away and freezing to death in the mountains:
"It's god's own neon green about the mountains here tonight / throwing brittle coloured shadows on the snow"
That's incredible, beautiful. I had no idea it moved so fast. I'd love to see the Aurora... but you know, #BoycottUSA. Another thing to put on the list for after this madness era is over.
I've never been able to make it somewhere where the aurora is so strong. The closest I got was last year here in North Georgia, but I could only see reds through a camera view finder and in pictures. Are the colors as vivid in person as they are viewed electronically?
Thank you! I'm 67 and I've never seen the aurora borealis in real life, and it's my dream to do so. I'm not sure where to go, to have the best chance of seeing it. How often do you see it there in Alaska? And is there a location that tends to get a substorm like this?
Beautiful! We get the aurora here in Northern Ontario 🇨🇦. They usually appear like drapes ruffling in a gentle breeze and in many colors. This wasn't that well defined but still beautiful.

Even though I understand why they form I still get a sense of Awe at the Beauty of Nature.
So wondrously beautiful
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏾
This Cat 🐈 Dad could use some help to starve off eviction
Thank you man
It's quite ethereal and majestic to watch.

If we don’t take care of our planet, she’ll do something necessary and drastic I’m betting … 🧐 🤔
"It's god's own neon green about the mountains here tonight / throwing brittle coloured shadows on the snow"
Just head North instead, the Nordic countries are all great places to see them.
We'll keep trying to fight the fascists over here in the meantime, but no need to deprive yourself.
Thanks so much!!
I love it!!! :o)
Bucket list!!!
The sky is like a canvas!
Our planet, interacting with its parent star. Electrodynamics on a planetary scale. Mind-blowing.
Thank you for the gorgeous phenomenal video.
Indeed you are a fortunate person!
