It's algorithmic, based on who *you* follow. Some feeds are full of randos, but some are based on your own follows.

You can plug in a subject of interest and if someone has created a feed with that interest, it will show you posts from everyone who posts about that thing. e.g. I follow 2 Feeds about books/bookreading, some science/medicine feeds, history, Star Trek... There's plenty of content to see. 👇🏼

Looks like it does some graph analysis on follows or likes to detect cliques and neighborhoods, then, I expect, uses your “likes” data to allocate neighborhoods to you, then pulls skeets from those neighborhoods. It could do a lot of optimized preprocessing on the feed, so all it needs to do is/

Yes? No? Sorta? While they're not shown publicly in the official apps, it's easy enough to get any user's liked posts from the API and to use that data as the developer sees fit. I think that's what Skyfeed does after you opt in.

For what it's worth, Bluesky isn't private in the least. There's a public API called the firehose that basically gives app developers a live stream of every interaction happening across the network. It's great for developers but can be iffy for privacy.

I hope when it gets down to monetizing this place they will choose to lease managed bsky at protocol servers for corporate and personal servers.

The "Following" feed is more or less that but with some knobs. If you go to Settings -> Home Feed Preferences you can tweak if you see replies / quote posts / reposts in that feed.
