TBH, sports ads are one of the few with any reach lately, and sports fans a) don't know what to do about trans people in sports, and b) can tend to be a bit homophonic already, and even more transphobic. Can.
I heard his campaign blew 20 million dollars to blast that specific ad out everywhere with no targeting data whatsoever, which is why it appears in san francisco of all places.
Shades of bloomberg 2020 but alas it won't kill his campaign by making everyone sick of it like mike's.
Team trump has been having huge and expensive CDP problems.
Kinda crazy to not have a winning database by now, on the third campaign, but a new opponent and new polling data may be requiring a different demo than they spent so much on.
True, but targeting negative ads in a tight race matters a lot. Negative ads suppress harris votes, but that doesn't matter for the WS unless this trump ad reaches voters in Nevada or Pennsylvania(?) imo. It also contributes to a lower opinion of the attacking candidate, if that's even possible.
Their marketing guy is betting baseball appeals to young, urban, democrat-leaning men (assumption 1) based on polling data showing a high anti-trans correlation (assumption 2) and that negative ads will discourage turnout for this demographic (assumption 3).
Not just swing states; Ohio is more or less a lock for Trump but Brown is leading in the most expensive Senate race in the country. They make sure to reference Harris in most anti-Brown ads, which almost always feature trans stuff and/or immigrants. Lots of rank dishonesty, too.
What's weird there is a Trans movement to vote for Trump. I'm not sure if it's cosplayers for this election cycle or real deal anymore? I've already heard from at least one well-known Trans in horror fic voting for Harris, so this shit should fail biggly except for his rabid cult base to eat up.
As a person who lives in Ohio and watches college football, I'm... not surprised. Roughly even odds as to what will be on when I start watching: it'll be anti-trans, anti-immigrant, or pro-losing-all-your-money-gambling-online-via-our-sponsor content. The other two show up within five minutes.
Though in fairness they're usually Moreno ads that also serve as anti-Harris ads ("Brown and Kamala want men playing girl's sports and giving prisoners trans surgeries!"), and I was extra happy voting against him because Trump will almost certainly get our EC votes, but Moreno can definitely lose.
Yup. It was incessant here during baseball games and I saw it this weekend for football. And so many people I know are talking about how vile those ads are.
Apparently the UK conservatives were doing the same thing in the run-up to the UK election this summer? They really seem to think it's a winning message.
YouTube for me has been nothing but transphobic anti-Bob Casey ads. “He’s for they/them, not you.” There was never a chance I’d vote for McCormick, but the ads would have killed any chance. The amount of hate being directed at such a tiny minority who just want to live their lives is disgusting.
They show them during football, which I can’t watch now with my young kids. But it’s more the one with rape that I really don’t want them to be exposed to.
The World Series is the perfect time for them to show those ads. The transphobes think their strongest argument is against "boys" playing on girls' sports teams. They often use baseball as an example. The World Series is a great topper for their media campaign.
There are rumors that a lot of campaign strategy has been effectively outsourced to Elon (this is more than a rumor for the campaign GOTV operation, which ... may not be going swimmingly). And while this is an official campaign ad (not Elon's PAC), it ... probably looks clever to Elon.

Shocking.
Seems risky, obnoxious, expensive.
The ads I've seen for local Republicans are focusing almost exclusively on trans people. It's really gross.
Think "appeared at least once in every commercial break in a college football game."
I heard on a podcast who is paying for them, and it's not Elon, but.
Kinda surprising, eh?
