I don't have any charts, but rent in my city went up but <2x, and groceries are like maybe 1.5x what they used to be. (A 6pk of beer is def a couple bucks more and pasta that used to be 89c is now like $1.09 or something.) Buying a house depends a lot on neighborhood, also up but <2x.

I'm not saying it isn't hard, but idk of anything that I'm paying *3x* what I paid in 2010, let alone 2021. Aside from maybe real estate (again, depending on neighborhood). And I'd love to see those prices stabilize before the bubble pops again.

You may ask -- how did I get here? We moved from Gate City to a better place in Birmingham in what was essentially a frozen-in-2008 rental price due to its landlord. Pure luck; everyone around us got priced out. All new developments in Birmingham are even crazier in terms of median rent -- but;

they are rapacious land developers building the exact same new apartments you've seen going up everywhere else, and their rents would skew the stats badly (as in make them worse). There's also AirBnBs and other places that _were_ rentals where the landlords have swapped to the more profitable model

I'm honestly not sure there is a way, even if the economy _is_ good, to communicate that to the vast majority of US citizens unless you can point directly to some form of extra money in their hands at any given time, which is a direct indicator

Heard voter after voter interview griping about gas prices is in September. Got curious and looked it up. It was cheaper in 9/24 than 9/19. Media blackout on that and so much else, crime, crossings, etc. They’ll die unforgiven.
