A most exciting Friday night. I have (almost?) successfully replaced a toilet flush valve. I say *almost* because something is not going back together properly so there is a tiny leak, which I will have to fix tomorrow. But otherwise.. And yes, it involved removing the whole tank. - ThreadSky

Time to celebrate the Porcher flush valve. As the cistern refills, that small balloon/float levers down on the flush seal, keeping it firmly shut and resisting and tendency to leak! Funny how ideas like this are invented - then sometimes forgotten 🤔

I so hate working on toilets. Right now I'm fighting with one that has a seized bolt on the tank. I've tried to dremel it off and actually somehow managed to break the dremel tool lol. It was a cheap knockoff, so probably just shoddily made.

Pretty often that happens when you don't have the tank seated quite right and need to make sure the two bolts on either side are tightened evenly

I have the parts for one of those projects sitting in the closet right now, waiting for me to get around to them. Toilet 1, no problem. Replaced the parts, everything was great. Toilet 2, first the flapper wouldn't seal, then the gasket wasn't tight enough, now the overflow tube has a slow leak.

Had this earlier in the year, I’d over tightened one side (used an impact).. doing them equally(ish) to tension by hand fixed the seal and stopped the leak

Hello, fellow techie farmer! The flight crew would like to remind passengers: the porcelain in our bathrooms is far more delicate than the rusted bolts on a tiller's gearbox. Also: Never, EVER use an impact driver, on your tractor's hydraulic lines. Hoo doggy, those are SENSITIVE! <3

Had same scenario sevrl months ago. Turned out toilet was a Frankenstein…tank and the toilet it sat on were from 2 diff models. Exceedingly unfair the previous owner fit them together without a leak…and I couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Plumber verified, replaced the unit. Good Luck!

Could be the rubber washers around the two bolts, sometimes they crack after the tank has been removed, I'd put new ones on they are sold as a kit with the bolts. That was the problem we had when we did the same replacement.

Make sure the bowl fill tube is clipped to the top of the overflow pipe. I had a repair guy that just put the fill tube into the pipe...which placed the end tip below the water level...causing a constant siphon (& refills).

I failed at this last year.
Spectacularly.
It seemed sorted. Until it wasn't. And during the night I
ended up with a tsunami of water flooding my basement - which is 5 floors from the said toilet...
