cloth masks helped a lot in the early days when more people were wearing them & trying to stay at home, but now it's best to go with at least kf94/kn95 or better, and you can layer a cloth or chain over that. If you want more info on mask quality/efficiency I can reply with some resources

Don't cover/layer a KF94 or KN95 mask, it interferes with the electrostatic nature of it and also makes it more difficult to breathe.

And cloth masks are better than nothing.

Menards has KN95 masks with loops that go around the head & are pretty comfortable, for folks with access to Menards.

cloth masks do not really belong in the discussion as a valid substitute anymore, but layering one over a well-fitted mask is better than wearing one alone or wearing no mask as long as the wearer is comfortable & they fit test.

If you have to go, try to get the 1st appointment in the day, bring a portable HEPA cleaner, use nasal spray like Enovid before and after, CPC mouthwash before and after, Lumify for eyes before and after.

It's not perfect, but it's something.

Ask the dentist and anyone else to mask. I take the room size HEPA air purifier with me. Also don't fall for nonsense products I see people already trying to push at you, HUGE amount of unproven covid product hype on social media that claims to be "scientific"

The dentist is definitely a risk, because as a patient you can't mask. We also ask for the earliest appointment. But also my dentist was very conscious about infectious disease before the pandemic (He predicted to me covid would hit us on Feb 8 2020). And he always wore masks because he said he

didn't want to breathe decayed tooth dust into his lungs obviously. He's also a recent cancer survivor so probably wants to avoid viruses also. I've had other dentists and staff who've masked decades ago, but I hear many don't. Makes you wonder why any of them would want to risk breathing tooth dust

We never stopped masking. I even have a way to turn the best ones into N95 equivalents. Long covid from omicron taught to mask when going into contact with people indoors.
