He’s got surplus inventory sitting on dealer lots. Why is he professing to take inventory away from paid customers ? Is he planning on still delivery these vehicles as new?
Remember during the critical first days of Hurricane Helene relief Musk blasted to his followers that a private helicopter couldn’t land and he created such a shit storm that Pete Buttigieg had to take time to call & explain the situation to him before Musk would call his attack dogs off.
This might be his dumbest idea yet. Starlink Terminals could easily be powered by small generators or a small solar panel/battery setup. You don't need a $100k truck with a giant lithium-ion battery for that.
Also, is he suggesting that customer's brand new vehicles are going to be parked near places affected by the fires? How would you feel if you spent $100k on a Cybertruck and when it was finally delivered it smelled like smoke?
Exactly my thoughts! There is no way this is true. I’ll eat crow if it is, but it makes zero sense. Here’s your new car with 500 miles on it and the permanent stench of a house fire. Why not rent some u-hauls and use generators? How long would a CT last before needing charged?
Also, not to downplay the need for internet, I know people need it to file insurance claims but we’re talking about people who lost literally everything. Surely the richest man in the world could get them hotel rooms, transportation, food, clothing, etc. but with Musk everything is self-serving.
It's a good burn, but this is actually a very good thing. Starlink is a genuinely great, transformative product/service- hence fight over it in Ukraine, rebels in Myanmar being desperate to get it etc.
What we don’t know…is the price for this unsolicited ’generosity’, versus what a competitive price would be? This ‘sole-source’ arrangement typically is the most expensive and in government contracts…illegal
Any way this can be used as tax write-offs in value after “loaning them” for some kind of donated relief services? I don’t belief the man would do this without some concrete financial benefit.
I was listening to a report earlier today about how all of the tesla vehicles and home batteries in the area are going to create a major issue for rebuilding. All of that lithium is a serious health hazard.
Using the current fires to explain away the delays in production/delivery. Delays that have been frustrating those that ordered cyber trucks well before the current California wildfires.
Yes, Elon, people who lost everything and are going without food and water, let alone adequate shelter, need an internet connection so they can tweet.
I’d be donating hot meals and clean water, but I’m a damn dirty liberal.
The li-ion batteries & their ability to burn ferociously has crossed my mind quite a few times since the LA fires broke out, especially when you either need an F500 extinguisher or to submerge the whole flaming bastard in water to get it to stop.
like the last time with the children in the cave. Only PR from Musk. I wonder how long it will take till he names a firefighter a "pedo" because they are removing those cars to get the rescue work done.
He just wanted to post the lie that people are "waiting" for deliveries. He has them because people have refused delivery, they built way more than real demand, and Tesla is paying to store them. They have a huge surplus of unwanted Cybertrucks.
What an insufferable jackass!! All the reports lately are that demand is way down for that pos. Now he's trying to position it as, oh boy, deliveries will have to wait, I'm playing hero!!

While the professionals do something useful, he dicks around.
And then gets mad and calls them "pedo".
Flex.
Ever.
So he is going to pay for the loss of value as a result…right?
