I also have an MXL V67 that I modded with a better capsule and complete reworking of the circuitry. All-up, the mods on that mic were about $50. It's got a great vintage sound - I like it on guitars, kick drum, vocals.

And if you can't find that particular mic, there's a ton of info out there on modding cheap condenser, expensive capsule and mic mod sellers, eBay people selling weird capsules from China, mod kits. Circuit diagrams are easy to find. You can get started just replacing the capacitors if you want

Maybe 12 years ago, I picked up an MXL990 "Snowstorm Edition" mic from Guitar Center or something for $65. Had blue LEDs in it, kinda looked silly, lost track of it.

Found it about a decade later, installed a $12 mod kit into it, and it's so good. Can't compare to the real thing, but still sweet
