One of my strongest childhood memories is my dad insisting on going to Blockbuster during a torrential rainstorm because I'd never seen Animal House. (I was in fifth grade.) We ended up leaving our car a street away on the way home because our street was too flooded to drive down.

We had no sex, no violence in movies, but then basically any 70s or 80s British drama that PBS would air was okay, and there was a good bit of sex and violence in those. I’m amazed now that my parents were chill with me watching I, Claudius or Prime Suspect as a kid given the other restrictions.

i was a garden hose drinking, free-range latch key kid and i watched and did whatever i wanted. the corner convenience store (across the street from the catholic church) would rent any movie to anyone. they would also let kids but cigarettes for their parents. anyway we all turned out great
