It is a fallacy that only or mainly girls are good at masking, the same is true for many men, including myself. I think also the general medical attitude towards women plays a role.
Masking however is mentally exhausting, and usually leads to burnouts, sometimes so severe that it is live changing.
Sorry but not sorry, but anything to do with the female sex be it in education, sport, science & all healthcare has been built based on male as research had been based on young white college men =Drugs & diet misdiagnosed over drugged. For those with additional learning needs🤦🏻♀️ downplayed bc of diff
The first step is to just listen to accounts. Patients and parents give valuable insight into life struggles. I could not get anyone to listen and my daughter finally ended up getting help in her thirties.
As others have said, boys mask too. My son was late diagnosed and has had several burnouts due to his expert masking skills. It's about differing presentations, not gender. However, it's great to see an MP highlighting how so many children are being failed by the system
Yes, and I’d even push a little more. We need a society that recognizes and supports everyone, one that cares for our neighbors and those different than us. Because, while we’re all human our differences are what gives us our humanity.
I supported children with autism and the spectrum is quite wide ranging, too often this caused late diagnosis. This was exacerbated by the Tories who withdrew funding. With the right support and funding early diagnosis is possible and the positive influence this has on children is noticeable.
They fail girls due to differences in how it represents, but truthfully all children who have this are different and all are failed and the parents have to resort to educational lawyers to get a fair outcome. And yes. I'm one of those parents.
Especially with autistic girls there’s a tendency to attribute everything to anxiety, especially all the co-occurring physical health issues such as symptomatic hypermobilty. @sedsconnective.org
This completely sums up my 7yr old granddaughter's experience! Hopefully she is on the right path now but that is very much down to her parents understanding of neurodiversity.

No one says children with homosexuality.
