Because generic has 325mg vs vicodin which has 500mg. Limits were put on compound formulas for safety in 2012 (and Vicodin brand hasn’t been available since then, although you still see people write for it).
You are right, x/325 is generic norco. Yet another reason these drugs are terrible…everyone refers to them by various old brand names that mean different things and hydrocodone sucks so they shouldn’t be getting written at all.

If I dimly recall correctly, Abbott first called their lower APAP formula a “branded generic” vicodin, whatever that is. But that’s been discontinued for a long time too.
