Dangling more than a years salary in front of people to do their jobs for them only to turn around and cite the terms and conditions to deny it is wild. It’s wild how the police can still shock.
I didn't think they just wrote a check on the spot, but it really is astonishing if they can just be like, "You know what? Nah. We woulduh caught him eventually. So, really. We're the ones who deserve the reward." That's a different level of f'd up.
All this article means is that there’s a process in place to approve these rewards, as there should be. I wouldn’t get too worked up until it looks like the reward might be denied. No indication of that yet.
Both points are right. Cops lie through their teeth and it's really shitty to pull the rug out from someone who thinks they're gonna get 60k AND the snitch deserves nothing good
And you know they have the money, we all know they have the money, coming up with the scratch isn’t the problem. Just a complete dedication to showing contempt for regular people. Just amazing.
Imagine you wake up, head back to McDonald’s to get paid less than what you’re owed, everyone in the back calling you Snitchy McGee, and Eric Adams on TV talking up good old fashioned police work. My lord.
Snitches usually don't actually get stitches. They usually get hit with social scorn and distrust and ignored by the authorities, which might actually be worse.
No one who isn’t an actual on-the-book informant, prosecutor, or a defense lawyer would even interact with the police enough to have the expectation they know these rules.
Absolutely, if this person doesn’t have a lawyer to go over terms and conditions before calling they’d absolutely be operating under the impression they’re going to get $60,000 soon and start making decisions based on that assumption.

"Don't talk to the police" (about anyone or anything)
"Snitches get stiches"
This is America. Wave hope in front of people, only to find a technicality to yank it away.
I, for one am shocked.
If people think these rewards are just elaborate tricks, why would they keep cooperating?
am i stupid? this seems to be the critical sentence in the piece, but: is it actually a sentence?
the terms of the contract clearly show we don't have to pay this so we're not, get a lawyer if you're mad & feel up to it
