The right have never understood irony, or even sarcasm — but we’ve also now hit an era where the right don’t think Hitler was necessarily the ‘baddy’ in WW2 anymore and that going to war with Germany was a mistake in hindsight. That’s effectively all of Twitter now.

"Suburban Screams" is likely Carpenter's last directing work (and isn't great) but if this is it, it's fitting that he went out on taking suburbia, perhaps our most notable attempt at "well, this place MUST be safe for us" and showing us how wrong we were yet again.

Side note: My agent and I were discussing biographies at one point, and I said that I felt like John Carpenter would be cool because I wasn't quite satisfied with what's out there. But I supremely doubt that JC would be up for book-length interview sessions, so I'll likely leave it shelved.
