Just for the record, I'm not an influencer I just really enjoyed the game and wanted to share my thoughts. The parry/dodge mechanic is the more modern aspect, but it overall still plays like a classic turn based RPG.

The mechanic is a very important part of the game. If you fail to dodge, you will be absolutely destroyed even by common enemies. People who think that this is some side mechanic will have a very hard time.

I don't disagree about it not being a classic turn based RPG because of this, but at worse really story mode make it so missing a parry/dodge won't be much of an issue in term of party damage.

The sad thing is, that there are many enemies, where dodge windows seem fair and the story mode would make it too easy - but there are other enemies where I am not able to figure out the timing. Many reddit posts tell the same and some gave up even in story mode.

Honestly I feel difficulty and parry/dodge windows should be different settings. Normal difficulté with easy mode window would be the perfect mix for me.

I just finished it last night as well and the Wife & I really have to digest that game. It's incredible, I don't think there's really anything negative I can say about it, so much so that I'm trying not to be prisoner of the moment in thinking it may be my favorite turn based RPG of all time.

Is the game really as heavy on the dodge/parry mechanic as Steam reviews let on? Thats the one thing keeping me away. I am awful at these types of games.

No, not compared to other games. As it's turn based, you are not moving around or doing anything else, you're stationary and pressing a button at the right time. It takes practice, but once you learn patterns it's easier. Dodge has a longer window, but parry rewards a bit more for risking it.

I didn't have too many problems, the biggest thing is the difference between dodging and parrying. If you try to parry more it's harder as the window is smaller, but if like me you focus on dodging it's not too bad, just have to learn a few patterns. It's absolutely worth it in every way.

I wouldn't let that stop you. There is no shame in playing on an easier setting which makes parries a bit easier, but the dodge is also there and it has a longer window. The parrying is really just down to timing and muscle memory with just one button when you learn patterns.

I think that's the way to do it! The game is still challenging on easy, but again you get to appreciate and enjoy the story which is a major selling point. The game is also beautiful and the OST is PHENOMENAL.

It's been a long time since a game's enraptured me like this one. I'm in the endgame now, and the only reason I haven't finished it yet is the limited TV time (three kids will do that)
