It's a sad reality. USA healthcare sucks. I am a RN. About 18 months post cancer treatment. I lost my insurance. I wasn't able to work full time. I can't afford insurance. I can't see my Dr. No PET scans. I'm probably a dead person walking. Make too much at work, I can't get Medicaid. Walking dead.

Or they live in states which didn't provide Medicare for anyone who is not a woman with children (no single women, men with children, single men, etc) even if their income is 0. The gap in coverage is dumb. No state should be allowed to reject Federal money for entitlement coverage.

I became disabled because of RA and got early social security, so it’s not much. After 2 years, they switch you from Medicaid to Medicare, but I don’t have enough to pay the premiums. I have just enough savings that I can’t get Medicaid help to pay Medicare premiums. So I have no insurance at all.

That's me. I'm *just* over the threshold for Medicaid so I can't get it or any of the associated help like SNAP. But my out of pocket medical expenses because of that put me well below the threshold. But that doesn't matter because they don't count that as a one to one where I live.

I lived this hellscape three months after my son was born. He had state insurance, I was in the coverage gap. Thanks Utah for not expanding Medicaid. 🤬

Let’s be honest. Not just because of this. Because of a deeply dysfunctional national politics run by for-profit corporations, by lobbyists. Obamacare would only have ever qualified as the 33rd worst national health plan out of the richest 33 countries in the world.

This had been my reality until lately, when I became poor enough to qualify for the Oregon Health Plan. For the first time in my life, I've had regular health care visits and minor surgeries. Now, I can't make more money because I'd lose the coverage and wouldn't make enough to replace it.

There's also the "looper" issue (also permeates all the safety net programs that aren't Soc Sec) which is basically designed to fuck people over with work requirements that have them losing healthcare, SNAp, etc, then they circle drain and end back on social safety net programs.

Made a resolution for bare minimum healthcare. I have "good" ins, every visit is a 200 $ copay. Can't afford it. Not going to try. The last time I tried to 'avoid' the ER, I waited weeks for tx and then the issue resolved so no diagnostic support. It ended up costing just as much as the ER. FML

Some states have programs to help people who do not qualify for Medicaid but don't make enough money to afford health care. I suggest you contact your state legislator or governor's office to find out what resources are available.
