I do believe we’re facing a generational problem. We have Dems who’ve been in office so long that they think their job is just to get elected in the next cycle and not to govern and wield power. They worry too much about what Rs might weaponize and as a result they refuse to fight.

For Democratic Senators, this group is the Very Serious People in the Washington/NYC corridor. These Very Serious People need to take contrarian stances to feel they are smarter than everyone else.
aoc and sanders sees this as a calling, others see it as a job.
So dumb that they don't even try!
Churchill paraphrase
During the 2018 shutdown it took a bit for voters to feel the pain, I can see 1-2 weeks into a shutdown musk/trump saying “you can’t even tell they’re gone!”
There was so much hand wringing about not blowing up the filibuster, because one day we may need to use it.
Why the fuck did we do that if we aren't gonna use it?!
We have no idea how to be an opposition party. Our leadership is weak and cowardly.
This isn’t generational.
The Dems are the victims in a domestic abuse situation who are too scared to speak up and too scared to leave, even when the welfare of the kids is at stake.
this is class based ... the rich/comfy vs the rest of us.
I think it is more of a them loosing touch with their constituents, with normal people.
Walz, AOC, Bernie, Crockett et al
This is “a” problem but a misdiagnosis of the main problem.
campaign against older candidate.
Message to dnc: we won't elect anyone over 65 again.
Stock Market soared today. They ALL KNEW that the Dems were going to make it look like they were fighting but ultimately pass it.
They strategically picked the 10 Dems that they think can get away with it.
Who wants to see that movie? Not me. I prefer inspiring modes of the Arts and Humanities!
Zombies. Disembodied mouths.
Didn’t understand their constituents needed at least a symbolic victory.
No resistance. No outcry.
They know nothing about leadership.
Not one miserable thing.
How many come in to office wealthy? They sure as hell are, if they ever retire. Greed takes over vs helping the people that elected them.
He's one of the few pre-9/11 Senators left.
We need young energy to to fight against the old fuddy duddy’s.
I’m 64 and I think Chicken is too old to be in government.
us-worldwide
We have a spineless 🐈 human problem, because Trump is as old as my great grandfather and his party falls right in line.
In truth, there is no government to save.
MAGA have violently attacked our Capitol and filled our government with grifters & fascists.
If Democrats help MAGA out of this mess, we'll know America is dead.
Gives the President total power to block funds all across federal government
by declaring a "deficit emergency" • Directly names the Social Security Admin & the HHS (which runs Medicare & Medicaid) as agencies the President can control
in a "deficit emergency"
Chris Van Hollen for Senate Minority Leader
Elders failed to use power 2021-202 to enact guardrails against authoritarianism after the most corrupt administration in history flamed out with a conspiracy, autocoup, & insurrection — & then failed to hold the corrupt autocrat to account.
He’s now consolidating power, & they’re out of it.
Pubes fight for power.
Dems long to be loved.
This has been a mystery since the beginning of time.
One theory is...
-money
Another theory is..
-money
And the third is..
-cosy job with lots of money and power.
But, these are only theories.
Who knows the truth..
We made this situation by glamorizing sitting out. We can unmake it by engaging.
It's not generational. It's the system. Until Citizens United is overturned, nothing will change.
A corrupt systems produces corrupt results.
The problem is the weak MEN.
They're tamed opposition. They don't even see their own cowardice, because to them it makes sense.
We haven't needed courage in legislators for a long time and our tolerance of corruption has grown enormously since the 1980s. So now we have corrupt cowards in the Senate.
you can't trust anything from these bullshit engines.
all they do is pick a statistically likely next word
People elect a politician to listen to them and represent their views.
Politicians believe that they were elected because the public supported the views the politician already held.
It's a subtle difference, but important, and explains why nobody is listening to their voters.
Not one vote would change
Not one
Then clean house.
Better yet, let's start a new party.
Let the current Dems die out with the GOP.
Politicians are too busy fundraising & beholden to special interests.
They don’t even bother to think about voters, only their special interest donors and lobbyists.
Special interests will throw their money behind a challenger the second they get out of line.
conciliatory and bent on consensus.
It isn't tip O Neal v Reagan anymore
The problem is the vicious sea change in politics practiced by trump. NOT normal times. No working across the aisle. No negotiation with tyrants
It’s time to shake this shit up and take away the complacency and entitlement.
Yeah- its class.
Or maybe they have, and that’s why they do nothing.
