Also the fact that the journalist simply relied on someone else’s racism (the industry expert) and that was enough for him.
Maybe it would have been better to talk to, say, an academic who studies manufacturing? I guess that would be too “woke” for today’s NYT

I think it's more there is a whole generations that resents the fact that there were people of color in their college classes, who they assumed did not deserve to be there. Pinker is saying what they want to hear in a vaguely "centrist" way

Perhaps the nyt's point isn't that all Chinese women have little fingers, but that Apple chooses Chinese women who happen to have little fingers. Just throwing it out there for consideration.

It’s not the NYT’s point in any sense; it’s Pinker’s point, but still a racist generalization editors should have caught. The exact wording is “young Chinese women have small fingers”
