I learned that I didn’t get the MMR vaccine when I applied for college and had to submit my vaccination records. I was shocked—and thankful that so many of my peers had been vaccinated, because herd immunity kept me safe. (I also got vaccinated ASAP.)
Or even a baby boomer. I was pulled out of class and got yelled at by the principal because I missed getting my polio vaccine, AT SCHOOL, because I was sick that day. Yeah. We took vaccines very seriously. Of course, there were no measles & chickenpox vaccines then. But my kids were vaxxed!
I'm very proud of my immunities collection. When people talk about smallpox being the most likely bioweapon, I look at my immunization scar and think "Bring it."
i was one of the 3% of kids who got the jabs and got measels anyway, and thus Relied on herd immunity. still got it a few times, still relying on the herd to do the bare minimum to avoid getting it in my 40s
