1) No Dem should ever say they agree with Trump on anything. Zero upside, immense downside.
2) It's more likely voters start resenting American manufacturers—"why are the rest of us suffering for the 4.7% employed in manufacturing?"—than they develop a positive attitude towards these tariffs.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in D.C. today: "And let’s usher in, as President Trump says, a ‘Golden Age’ of American manufacturing.'”
This is nuts. Democrats really, really have to learn, as Robert Frost put it, to take their own side in a fight.

If she did, she'd immediately recognize that Donald Trump is using tariffs as a political weapon to force nations and businesses to submit to the Republican Party in exchange for relief.
She does not.
And yes, never give it to Trump as a Dem pol. You get nothing except potentially ruinous clips.
Let's see the rest of her speech. I'm guessing she actually said "I do support American manufacturing, but these idiotic tariffs are hurting, not helping."
I point to this evidence: She said it.
100% doesn't matter what else she said. She said that.
There's absolutely no context that would make this acceptable. She needs to be done in everyone's eyes.
Trump is doing everything he can to make them lose their jobs.
But Whitmer is excited that Trump's policies might result in some extra manufacturing jobs in the state that pay $17/hr...
