Hey y'all I'm not tagging in someone I don't know who was just trying to tell a nice story but just a reminder that the word is disabled.
Not "differently abled." Not "handi-capable." Not any other euphemism that was cooked up to make abled parents of disabled children feel better about themselves.

Or better yet, use the specific term for the relevant disability, such as Autistic person, Deaf person, or person with Down Syndrome (person-first language being generally preferred in the Down Syndrome community).
We should follow an individual's preference when known, but when not known, we should use the language most accepted within the particular community. Which is often identity-first (Deaf person, Autistic person, disabled person), not person-first.
