Left: Rachel Reeves repeatedly saying there will be no return to austerity
Right: Rachel Reeves on her way to announce the Spring Statement in which there will be cuts to welfare and other departments, which is, in another word? Austerity

The proposed welfare cuts over the same amount of time would cover at least half of that.
It’s austerity.
Hint: UK public spending this year is £1,276.2 billion
There’s a war coming btw so get used to the fact that EVERYTHING will get worse v soon
They are sowing the seeds of their own defeat next election.
Me that’s not true because we all know them. Maybe you’re one of them yourself. Look on the mirror if you are.
Clear?
Cutting welfare after years of cruel cuts is evil.
All to increase the defence spending. #WelfareNotWarfare
That means there will be. By any account.
BTW Ukrainians are much poorer than us but nearly all their GDP goes on defence. Are we more special than them?
People have to get used to it because it’s going to get worse

If she cuts that forecast by £1bn-£2bn today, it still won't be austerity.
Far from it.
Estimate from the Joseph Roe tree Foundation
And 1-2% cuts in depts other than health and defence, looks like austerity
Let's see what she announces in a couple of hours
But even if they happen as predicted, a projected £48bn rise in public spending over 5 yrs is not "austerity" as policy, which was a deliberate Tory act to cut the public sector and public services 2011-2014.

But we also have to be accurate in our language.
The Tories cut public investment over years as deliberate policy. That is/was austerity.
Reeves has increased public investment over years by £50bn. That's not austerity.
Just not that bit of it that has anything to do with Brexit.
It's a continuation of austerity. #BinReeves
That's my well thought-out analysis.
In Birmingham, the low paid bin men are being given an £8k pay cut whilst the chief exec receives £260k+.
The system is rigged by the establishment.
