i absolutely love sonic spinball and can't tell you how many times i've played it. and i totally agree with your take on the options/credits music, i know that a lot of people really don't like it but as someone who's been playing this game for over 20 years, it just sounds normal and good to me.
also, not sure how common knowledge this is, but the only stage where you actually need to get any emeralds to complete it is lava powerhouse. the rest you can technically just glitch your way up to the boss fights, although it's pretty difficult to pull off, especially in toxic caves.
hell yes i love the options screen music, thank you for agreeing because i keep seeing it on "worst 16 bit music" lists and they are all wrong (but also yes that remix did sound better)
My favorite Spinball trivias are about the Master System version, released in 1995, it was the second to last game published by SEGA on the console. In Brazil the SMS received a rebrand with blue label replacing the white background but for spinball they made a special half white and half blue box
