I don't think anyone wants to block you, but maybe understanding why you feel that way or understanding why we enjoy it might be a good discussion for all of us. But it's ok if you don't like it. Thankfully there's lots of entertainment options in the world for everyone to find what they like.
Okay. Well, I find it a modern day version of gladiator. And I increasingly think we are at a similar place in our evolution as a society. Death, conflict, pain of others is celebrated. The anti-hero (someone who is cruel, corrupt, and plain thuggish) is now our hero and president. Pathology.
You came in pretty hot on that one, at least based on what I saw here to reply toβ¦ so Iβm curious: why do you say so?
(For reference as to where Iβm coming from: Iβve got a rather middling response to itβ I donβt follow it, but also donβt actively disdain it)
Yes, of course. That's the move towards civilization. If it were more like boxing I think I would actually have less of a problem with it because that is truly athletic. This is about "pretend" hurting others. And this move to the "barbed wire" event that just happened shows true blood lust.
Once saw Mick Foley leap from the top of a cage onto a desk during the Rock/Sock Connection era - was excrutiatingly brutal. π«£ But I think the response you're looking for is - hit me with a chair? ... yeah, not a REAL chair tho. π
If they came up with a better name than "wrestling", they'd probably draw more fans. Because it isn't "wrestling" at all, as most people understand the word.
The dedication required to do the conditioning and rehearsal required for that stunt is nothing short of spectacular. Genuinely on par with the folks at Cirque!
I did theatre tech in undergrad, and the first time I sat down to watch a wrestling show on TV I admit to being fully impressed by Undertaker's entrance and style.
Itβs an artβ¦.where all the artists need to be elite athletes, stuntmen, actors, all while needing chemistry with one another to be effective teammates, even when the story line is that theyβre enemies.
Every move needing perfect sell and entertainment value
Are they? They know what their audience is. They know the type of story they are playing out. They know the expectation. Hitting that mark is what they're meant to do. Providing the expected entertainment. A good actor meets the direction provided and entertains their audience.
But do they know how to play to their audience? Because it seems to me that many modern wrestlers play to a niche that turns a lot of people off. This video is a prime example of something that an older fan of wrestling would hate.
Itβs entertaining choreography. But no matter how well planned, when one is being thrown to the ground/floor itβs gonna hurt when you make contact.
Elvis paintings on black velvet are an art form too...
I still don't want either in my home & I won't waste my time on them.
Arguing art is another matter...
High school wrestling is the one that's fake. I've been to several matches and I've never seen ONE pile driver or figure-4 leg lock. No one was wearing a mask. They don't even have managers slip them brass knuckles during a match. f that ain't fake then I don't know what!
I don't know about elsewhere, but in Oregon high school wrestling, girls can compete with boys in the same weight class. I once had a male student who lost a match to a girl, then got her phone number and went out with her. Talk about being a good sport!
When I was six I loved wrestling and roller derby. My mom drew the line at wrestling and I had to go next door and watch it with an older neighbor who loved it, too.
Wow, that is am impressive stunt, especially on the part of the guy on the receiving end because his timing as he backed up to then be in the right place to be "kicked" was amazing.
Even when i dismissed it in the past for being fake(i appreciate it now as the muscked soap opera it is clearly meant to be), i never doubted what it took to physically do all that
Now I'm not saying Rachel Maddow ruined this place by telling her audience to sign up but there is not a single person in my replies saying this who hasn't posted an AI Trump meme about him being a nasty gross gay with Putin in the past 3 days
Years ago I caught heat for writing articles variously comparing Brecht and Shakespeare to pro wrestling. Butβ¦ cβmon!
βWe are amazed; and thus long have we stood
To watch the fearful bending of thy knee, Because we thought ourself thy lawful king:And if we be, how dare thy joints forget
80
To pay their awful duty to our presence?
100. If we be not, show us the hand of God
That hath dismissed us from our stewardship;
For well we know, no hand of blood and bone
Can gripe the sacred handle of our sceptre,
And though you think that all, as you have done,
Have torn their souls by turning them from us,
And we are barren and bereft of friends;
Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
90
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.β
Thatβs good trash talkβ¦ and it keeps going and getting nastier.
Skinny Mini Miller gets a slingshot on the curve and is speeding along the outside and gets an elbow to the face and a hip check into the rails...ouch thats gotta hurt
If you can't get away from the guy doing back flips towards you are not a fighter. LOL!!
That is bad acting and bad fighting. All he had to do was step out of the way if he were a fighter and it looked pretty sad, so he was bad acting on top of it.
The amount of practice required to tumble is quite a bit. The amount of practice to exact tumbling like this, even more. Watching the tumble, practiceless.
Why are you making assumptions about me. I just made point. I wasn't being rude. Are you just so used to arguing online that you forgot about civil interaction?
A client I worked with loved wrestling. We talked a lot about the creative passion pro wrestlers have and their dedication to the role and personality of their developed character!! Plz donβt hit me with a chair
That was perfect. Like, the visual was funny, the flips were impressive, and I can't imagine the guts one has to have to even attempt that specific transition out of the ring.

I just wanna know before we start.

ut you're exactly the little boys who left the fascism fight to women for the last 4 decades, child

I would argue that, like religion, and unlike Star Wars, many people think it is real.
Typical, and anticipated.
Sorry to blow up your world π€·ββοΈ
The Easter Bunny and Santa Claus arenβt real either.
Well, I mean, my human body isn't.

Those fucking guys are athletes of a different caliber
No one can take a hit and have the endurance wrestlers do
Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck ...

But realistically speaking, not competitive sport though.
