When I worked at Subway for the first time, my manager, during training, said plainly to all of us "look at your co-workers as if they are competition." Just.... =/
But that's not how we forage our resources as a social species - a degree of competition is essential for innovation and testing processes, ideas, and ourselves
Make no mistake, this brand is competing for our attention like all the rest
Collaboration is essential too: prosocial behaviour creates the most sustainable communities, but competition remains a feature - check out David Sloan-Wilson's work
In evolutionary psychological terms, of course we are in the Stone Age, and that is perfectly normal
Based. Social creatures are better able to survive when they work together. The exchange of ideas is more efficient through cooperation rather than competition. Competition in fiction has led to problems for characters in said fiction because that’s what competition does.
I set an exam last term and beforehand a student was trying to understand how I run things. He asked what would happen if everyone did really well on the exam, would I adjust the curve?
Nope, I'd just be happy that they all learned something in the course and did well on the exam.
