One thing that drove the appeal of the red states was housing. People in US can't get homes and Canada has sim. issues. Red states still building homes even now. lots of people moved to red states in spite of poor education systems and really bad healthcare. Ban Musk and build homes Canada.
No. I don’t think there are. You have to understand that the United States is not one country; it’s 50 badgers, feral cats, and explosive colons in a trench coat.
Yes & no. US is different in how it works since it is like 50 different countries operating under one flag w 1 goal & slight different objectives. You have state test that can vary. But if AP kid you all have to pass same test. But currently changes to AP classes so that’s up for grabs it seems.
In Canada, state schools are allocated funds per student, so there’s a standard of education that goes across the country.
In the US, state schools are dependent on local taxes for funding. So if you live in a poor area, you go to a poor school. If your housing is cheap, so is your education.
It was most certainly the lan. Republicans have dumbed down education for decades. If you are interested in the necessary relationship between education & democracy, read John Dewey’s Democracy and Education. If you want to see what education is like in an authoritarian country and what must be
There are not. Thomas Jefferson emphasized that citizens from the same country should be recognized by other countries with which they dealt as coming from the same country by virtue of uniform liberal education. The obstructionists/isolationists said it should only be a state’s right to determine
educational needs. So uniform and high expectations for education were the expectation as the founders admonished a free people cannot remain free without a solid liberal education that allowed them to understand the problems & analyze candidates.

The red states thrive on keeping their citizens uneducated and hanging on every word of their pastors/ministers, etc. Notice how they call educated people “elites” and disparage anyone who is educated.
Yes, they are…do you think they care? I don’t think so. Dumbing down of Americans is real. The politicians want dumb stupid people to blindly follow. We have only a faux version of democracy
This is not just a USA problem - the situation will never improve via better educated majority while incumbents do not want an educated electorate capable of critical thinking or even just thinking - huge problem over here in UK imho 😢🤯
That's true. I've worked in secondary education and they don't even teach how the UK parliamentary system works (despite having mock elections etc.) nor how it's possible to take absolute power without gaining a majority of the votes. Neither do they teach critical thinking (intelligent skepticism).
I’ve studied MSc in Systems Thinking - imho (and experience) folks are reluctant to engage in new way of doing things - imho it needs to be woven into practice so it becomes ‘Systems Thinking by stealth’ 🥷 (my term). Donella Meadows ‘Leverage Points: Places to Intervene in a System’ is a good read.
They started the privatization of schools several years ago... it has bot worked out well, excepting the "people" (Betsy DeVos) who own them... kinda like "private prisons" here in the US.
The private or "Charter Schools" can have basically a bare minimum curriculum or a really good one, or one that is not teaching a lot of American history...
Republicans. It was a concentrated strategy to destroy public education and funnel cash to private schools where they control the curriculum and ideology.

That was the plan. Keep them uneducated and dumb. Most are not stupid, but misguided. I can't talk to my friends who went to the dark side. My neighbor, a snowbird from DE, in SWFL just planted a huge well-lit flag pole with an AM flag + a 45-47 flag on his lawn. Puzzled by their lack of vision.
